Good catch. I actually disagreed with “colonel” being in the silent “I” category - because the first “l” is not silent, it’s just pronounced differently.
How so? Merriam-Webster agrees with the NYT about colonel, but it also does about walk, so it’s obviously not infallible . How do you pronounce “colonel?”
