cons of getting a MAC

It has everything you really NEED though.

And yes, Mplayer is awesome

Mac users shouldn't feel special because they have an operating system that comes pre-installed with widgets. There is a program called Konfabulator for Windows that is free for download. It has more powerful widgets than Tiger.

what is a widget?

http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/dashboard/

my many thanks to you :p

i was running konfabulator on my Emac before i got an iMac that came w/ dashboard. i find that the dashboard widgets are just as good if not better than konfabulator.

ok so i am fully in love with my curvacious white emac, but ill tell you what, a powerbook is a beautiful thing. fully loaded itll cost you what any EQUIVALENTLY EQUIPED laptop will cost you, but this one is awesome. if you have specific incompatiblity issues go ahead, but i dont feel like im missing out using a mac over a pc... BELIEVE ME

we have lotsa macs at home and we rarely if not never run into compatibility problems.

also...widgets are cooler simply cuz its name isnt retarded. konfabulator? ***?

Hahaha it's true. konfabulator sounds like a gay pimp

Widget is not the name of your program; Dashboard is the name of it. Konfabulator is the Windows equivalent. They BOTH use programs called widgets. Some people even use Konfabulator on Mac's.

Still, dashboard sounds better than Konfabulator

trying to download MPlayer- it's so complicated! anyone know a dummy's way to figuring it out?

mac or pc?
you can find the latest version of Mplayer OSX at www.versiontracker.com

how do you get Adium?

Adium download here: http://www.adiumx.com/

in addition to adium you could also try Fire, it is an open source OSX instant messenger client that a lot of my friends really like. I personally use GAIM (on linux and windows).

And really...if you want to download something isnt it quicker to type the name into google than to make a forum post and wait for someone to do the same thing and then reply?

huh? my post wasnt just about adium, ottothecow

Then there's the whole load of built-in fun like voice command operation. Or if you're feeling bored, the mac will tell you knock-knock jokes (the cheek of them to add that!) and if you don't feel like finishing the joke the mac will usher, "Back to work, then." :p

Oh yeah, macs definitely rule my world now.

my knock knock jokes don't work! It says the first part but doesn't give me the punchline. Ahumph

Really? Seems ok for me most of the time. Of course whenever you don't say a command properly and the comp doesn't respond it makes the person sitting front of the comp feel a bit... silly. I'm still not over the idea of talking machines.
