Cons of Upenn

Have you all forgotten about the wonderfully luxurious highrises and the Fresh Grocer!?

PRO:

1) Academics are really second to none; also, there are many top grad programs @ Penn which means faculty = amazing.
2) Students are amazingly talented and more diverse than most schools; very culturally sound and open.
3) Access to the northeastern corridor, on top of Philadelphia, is great.
4) As a city, Philadelphia will impress most people with great night-life, simple transportation and resonable living options.
5) Tradition and history are strong on campus - this is great.
6) You can walk everywhere on campus.

CON:

1) Most residences are not that nice, other than the Quad
2) Dining Hall food is bleh, but lots of off campus food.
3) Students ARE competitive so it's not a walk in the park by any standard.
4) Safety by reputation might deter some students.

What are the bathrooms like?
Showers .. ?
Are they the kind of college showers that made you wish you didn't have to take a shower everyday?

oh please guys...this is college...almost all schools dont have wonderful dorms with massive floor space and individual bathrooms...if its that big of a concern to you, go to GW and pay 50 grand a year to live in a hotel gone dorm

how are penn's classrooms???

I don't know why... but the appereance of the classroom itself is a great influence of how inspired or how intellectually motivated am I.

It ranges. Some of them are pretty eh, but some are amazing (like Huntsman Hall).

There are few ornately-decorated antique classrooms, even in the ornately-decorated antique buildings. All the classroom buildings have had renovations at some point in which the ornate interiors were largely gutted and replaced with modern stuff, for better or for worse.

It doesn't look anything like a Princeton classroom, I can tell you that much..

what are the cons of penn beyond housing, food, crime?

[/quote]

None? :D

I suppose other complaints would not be unique to Penn but would simply fall under the LAC vs. research university debate.

Penn, like any school with 'university' in its name, has large lectures at the intro level, TAs that are hit or miss (advice: don't settle for a crappy TA. switch recitations)...that stuff.

Although the usual complaints of aloof professors disdainful of students are entirely unfounded at Penn (in my experience).
