Contacting coaches

I am applying to boarding schools for 2013. I have read about where people have hooks and they should use them. How do I go about letting coaches for the sports I play know about me? Do I just go onto the schools' websites, find their email addresses, and send them an email letting them know that I am applying to their school, play the sport they coach, and would like to meet them when I interview? Should I do the same for the academic courses that are my favorites, like Head of Math or Science Department or should I just send an email to the coaches?

Talk to the admissions office when you schedule your visit/interview. Many schools will coordinate with coaches. A few coordinate with academic departments too. If you live close enough some boarding schools have an open house where you can talk with athletic/academic staff.

I would most certainly contact the coach of a sport you are very interested in. A lot of times schools have an athletic form that automatically gets sent to the coach of your choosing.

Email personally. Leaves an impression that you are really enthisiastic about the program

I emailed all coaches of the schools I as applying to. Most replied. I think its better if you directly speak to the coach. Most coaches set up meetings with me rather than going through the admissions office.
