Contemporary or classical?

It says on their audition guidelines that for the one monologue you do for the audition it can be from either a contemporary or classical play. Does anyone who has auditioned or anything give input on what you think is better for CCM?

Also, does classical mean you can do a Shakespeare monologue?

If so, do you guys think they would be more impressed with a Shakespeare then just any other contemparary monologue?

Any advice/input would be great!

Thanks so much.

I would say contempary because it will give you more of a chance to show ur personality- in the end what they are looking for is that you know your type of role your capable of playing your confidence and comitment to the piece

I think they will be impressed by a monologue you perform well. If you do not have a lot of experience with classical verse pieces, I would suggest that you stick with a contemporary monologue. Good Luck!

I am a current sophomore MT. The best advice i can give you is to keep your monologue light hearted. the faculty watching your auditions dont want to be bogged down by 60 overly dramatic monologues during their day. not to mention that your material is part of how they see you as a person. make them laugh, or even just smile. show them through your material that you are a likeable person who they will really want to work with for four years. they truly do want every student that they see to be incredible, so show them that you are incredible and likeable too.
so in the end, i guess classical or contemporary isnt the issue. they dont mind which you choose, just so long as you know what you are doing.
