Context in admissions

Do colleges consider factors such as child abuse, having to take care of a sick relative or two, and going through a parent's imprisonment and court proceedings when establishing the context of student's transcript?

you can talk about any unusual circumstances in the additional information part. Or you can tell your counselor to talk about it if you want.

Oh ok. But it is considered?

It’s considered within reason. Doing very well despite adversity would be a big plus for most colleges. Adversity won’t cause colleges to overlook horrible grades for fear you 'd lack the skills to pass 4-yr college courses.

Thank you.
