Continuing Research?

Hello,

I'm a freshman going to one of the Top 10 institution, and for the last two summers, I've been participating in a lab of at a renowned research university. After my first year, I was listed as a coauthor in a research paper that was published in Nature, and a few days ago I just completed a second 12-week internship as a research assistant. I've been asked to return next year, and I hope to pursue an MD/PhD.

Honestly, I love the lab that I have been working with, but I am considering other programs for summer. My question is: in terms of the research experience, do medical schools prefer consistency or variety?

If the lab is going well, no need to switch just for variety.

I don’t understand why you would want to leave, if the lab let you be a co-author in a paper that was published in Nature.
