Controversial Texas Top 10% Rule

^That's true of many elite public universities, though- no one in their right mind is going to consider UC Berkeley, UCLA, University of Michigan or University of Virginia a safety, no matter what kind of students they are, so this isn't just Texas' problem. There are other public universities in the other states I mentioned with more relaxed standards that kids can use as safeties, and I'm sure that holds true for Texas, too. Considering your flagship state university a safety is not an inalienable right, shocking as this may be to CCers.

Except UT does not have reputations like those of the schools you named. I'm saying that without this rule, many top Texas students from reputable schools can consider this a safety.

@salamander, I considered UMich my safety and easily got in OOS. Berkeley, UCLA, and Virginia are much more selective than Michigan (just FYI.)
