I can’t speak to your email. Perhaps they used different methods. All I can say is Rob at Coolidge told me they used a 3rd party emailer and they often ended up in spam. He suggested we check spam and I said spam was empty. At that point he said he’d send out new emails sometime next week. I then called the school and our networking team located the email. The school had blocked it because it had been sent via mail chimp and mail chimp showed up as the sender. They then specifically looked for all the applicants.
As for the merit of the award… just be glad your kid got the nod. Out of curiosity, was he also a STEM kid? Who knows with Admissions - it’s a complete crapshoot. I know totally overqualified kids denied from safeties and underqualified who received acceptances.
I’ve been told by friends in Admissions the advent of free applications has made their numbers unmanageable. They can’t adequately process the apps the way they’d like and they have to be mind readers trying to guess whether THIS is the school the kid applying to 40 would actually attend. I believe this is the reason kids admitted to MIT and Harvard were denied by their state school and other safeties.
They’re working on revamping the process, but it will be too little too late for our kids. In the meantime they work 17 hour days juggling a half dozen or more time consuming extracurriculars, maintaining straight A+, somehow making time (there’s none to be found) to study a little for the myriad of subject, AP and SAT/ACT tests. I’m thankful my kid was a 35 once and done without prep on the ACT - at least that’s off his plate. The sad thing is he still feels he needs to take the SAT next fall along with 8 APs.
I’m beyond over it and my heart aches for the kids. I saw someone post on FB that kids hadn’t changed, we had - we no longer expect anything from them. Clearly the poster is out of touch with the reality of HS and the college admission process.
STEM kid
This is a real problem
Has anyone heard about what the summit for Coolidge Senators is like? A student I know is trying to decide but would have to leave another interesting summer program to attend.
@picklish Last year’s agenda can be found at:

Thanks - I did see that. Kiddo has been to DC numerous times and was curious about the Coolidge activities (seminars, group activities). Hope everyone received their emails by now.
I’m so sad to hear about kids being this stressed out. Test prep is particularly not a meaningful activity compared to other things they could be doing during high school. The good news is that there seems to be a decent amount of merit aid available, though not at the most elite schools.
thanks @ThinkOn Wow White House Tour, Supreme Court Tour, Washington D.C. architecture tour, U.S. Capitol Building Tour, Very nice indeed!
@ThinkOn did your get the reply from the foundation?
@hariputralake Last year, there was a “senator” who made to Harvard. But she’s also her state’s US Youth Senate rep. Congrats to your son!
Did your guys received the invitation for the annual Gala? D can’t go as she will be in the final week. Anybody who is thinking about going?
D was a semifinalst in 2017.
