Has anyone applied to this new scholarship which is open to juniors only.
My daughter applied, but we’re treating it as a lottery ticket.
I applied. I found out about it 3 days before it was due, and threw together an application. Like 18yrcollegemin, I’m treating it as a lottery ticket. Does anyone know how competitive it is?

Tough to figure out how competitive it is since this is the first year. However it was mentioned on CC and few websites including financial websites. We are also treating it as a long shot. @chasingmerit & @ACTmastaaa - Do you have policy or any other speech debate experience? @18yrcollegemin _ how about your daughter? Also, looks like they are looking for community volunteering.
No debate experience. Public speaking only for research presentations. More into art and sciences.
Less competitive than it will be very soon.

When are finalists announced?
@Yshsndkctab - Should be sometime this week since interviews are next weekend. My guess is by Thursday, that’s gives them Friday to make travel arrangements.

@Yshsndkctab - I am just speculating. Do you have lot of debate experience? If not any other community involvement?
I’m the #1 ranked junior in Orginial Oratory lol. It’s a speech and debate event.
@Yshsndkctab - That’s a great achievement!. I am familiar with S&D and OO. My S also does S&D but that’s not his primary. Coolidge says requirements are strong academics, with interest in public policy and community involvement. To me it looks like policy debate experience has more value. My S never did policy though, but he has decent community activities.

Also, someone mentioned 2300 completed applications; I remember reading a figure like that for started applications.
However, per the Coolidge Foundation FB page, there were 500 completed applications submitted as of the evening of March 17th. I believe it was due the next day. I’m guessing at least a hundred submitted on the last day (myself included).
Website says finalists will be announced this week. I doubt that they have already announced. Thhey announced that they got 2300 applications.
