Coop Question

Does Northeastern have non-boston coops? ie. If I live in New York and wanted to live at home during one of the coop sessions.

Northeastern student here - you can get a co-op anywhere in the country, and anywhere in the world, really. Tons of students work in NYC. That’s part of what makes co-op so exciting; work experience and travel experience all in one.

Most of Northeastern’s co-ops are still in the Boston area.
But I think New York is one of the cities with the most non-Boston co-ops.

Does anyone have info on the process for getting an engineering coop? Do the students do this independently or are there school sponsored interviews? Thanks.

The term before their first co-op students are required to take a one credit co-op prep course taught by their co-op advisor. Although my daughter has yet to take this class (will be taking it in the fall) - I assume the class takes you through the entire process over the course of the semester.

Hey i have the same problem i want to change majors but mantain the same conditions given to me (honors program and scholarship). What do you think? It will be possible?

Thanks for the info on the coop class. Anyone been through the coop class? Thanks!

The coop class is fairly comprehensive in terms of preparing you to find a coop position. During that class, you are given access to the coop database to do your research. The key to this process is to get to know your coop adviser early on and work with them throughout the process. Do mock interviews, a lot of them for each interview that you go on. The class also teaches you how to dress, how to behave while you are at a coop job, how to handle job-related events, and how to socialize appropriately with coworkers. I have a good friend that has two interns from Cornell and two NEU Coop students - he claims that all of them “know their stuff” however the NEU kids already know what is expected and how to work in an organization. You will come out very well prepared.

It sounds like a great class. Thanks for the info.
