Cooper Union - 2014-2015 Home test - Architecture and Art Schools

@larissazou‌ MAKE SURE U DRAW WELL FOR ARCHITECTURE! home test for arch is a lot simpler than arch, so if you do well on the art hometest i would assume u would also well on the arch hometest

I applied for CU arch and I’m super excited to get the home test! I have a strong art background so I am not too worried but I heard there is a writing portion which I am not the best at. I don’t think a portfolio is required but a rep is visiting my school in a couple weeks to do portfolio reviews.
I haven’t found too much about arch home test. Most of the ones online seem to be for the art home test, so I am eager to see what is on it. good luck! maybe we will be class mates!

@nocca15‌ yasss!!!

I got my Architecture Studio Test!

@silverarch‌ lol i got the hometest too and one of the questions is like what is your favorite movie — i am tempted to write ‘The Human Centipede’ just to mess with them

As they mention 'Please be aware that any portfolio submitted must be in a required format of 8.5x11 inches or 11x14 inches. Any portfolio exceeding these dimensions will not be considered ’

Does anyone know if a portfolio for Art/Transfer Arch is restricted to the size they mentioned(8.5x11 inches or 11x14 inches)?
Can it be smaller than 8.5x11 or between 8.5x11 and 11x14 inches since its not exceeding?

What can I use for putting them together because they said ‘do not submit any weighty covers or binders or boxes for the material’?

Do they prefer the portfolio itself to be artistic and creative or they will just look at the creative works in the portfolio.?
What do they want to see in Transfer Architecture Portfolio?
Also, anyone has examples of Arch Portfolio??

THX!

@Narokkii‌ haha I applied first year arch so I have no idea about the portfolios, (but some people on here applied) — i think it would be your best option to email them also cause thers not a lot of cooper union kids on college confidential haha

@Narokkii Yes, you must use the size specified on the hometest (11x14). I think they like seeing what you can do with the constraints given. I’m not sure about the portfolio because I’m applying for first year, but I would follow the instructions pretty meticulously. If you can make it work, go ahead and do something creative with your portfolio. As long as it doesn’t distract from your work I would imagine they like things like that. What year are you applying from? First year architecture work is very different than third year. They’re looking for creativity and then some, and they tend to like humanistic stuff but I would suggest to just be yourself.

I applied early decision for the school of art, and I was wondering if anyone has heard back yet?

I applied ed to art as well and haven’t heard back either. Any idea when acceptances are released?

I thought they were supposed to come out February 1st, so I’m assuming any day now.

Really? Where did you hear that? On their website it says ED applicants will be notified “end of February”?? Gah,
i am just a bundle of nerves.

In the packet with the home test I thought it said Feb 1st, but I might be wrong. Where did you find it on their website?

Hm. under admissions -applying to school of art ed it says " you will recieve a decision by end of feb." though i hear the sooner youre notified the better your decision is.

Hi guys. The chairman of admissions told me you’ll know your decision by feb 7 at the latest.

Ah, thank you. That is scary/soon!

Does anyone know of any acceptances/rejections yet?

I have asked one of associate director of admissions and his reply is “by the end of February means the result will go out sometime at the end of Feb”. Now I’m really nervous…

@thegrant thanks! and hows your hometest going?
@silverarch thanks for your suggestion. I am a first year architecture student and im going to apply for the first year again as well but i choose to apply as a transfer because i want to submit them a portfolio. Btw hows your hometest going?

hope we all best of luck

I’m 11th grade now and really interested CU archi, may I have a look at the previous archi hometests that got admitted?(if you still have photos) thanks!!
