Cooper Union ED art

Visited Cooper in the fall and was beyond impressed. Pulled a lot of all nighters and lost 7 pounds but I finished the Home Test. Anxious to hear back, does anyone know if they are usually on time??

Check out the posts from last year on the cooper admissions twitter and instagram accounts. They usually post when decisions are coming out and it may give you some sort of idea on the timeframe.

I started a thread for almost the exact same reason haha. The hometest both exhilarated and exhausted me and i keep getting that twisty feeling in my gut thinking about it… it says feb. 1, but I sincerely doubt it’ll be out by then, my friends from last years round heard back by February break, so that when I think it’ll be by. How do you feel about yours? Some of them I’m really proud and then some make me go ehhhhhhh…

I’m a parent of an engineering student. Good luck, I hope you’re accepted!

Pretty much everything that 2017freshman said! After having a good Portfolio Day review with Cooper in the fall, I went to go visit the school for an open house event. The city and campus were rad and I had a great review there as well—got one of those faculty referred early decision cards. Worked on the home test throughout December and shipped it overnight three days before the deadline.

I keep having that feeling 2017freshman was talking about, that anxious stomach churning. Not too worried about my portfolio or home test answers because of my reviews, but I’m probably one of the least academic students applying. I got a 1200 on my SAT and had a 3.7 GPA. Not too bad for most schools, but Cooper seems like a very competitive place in terms of academics—and in the arts, for that matter. Hoping I get in, (along with all of you!!) but if I don’t, I’ll probably end up transferring from somewhere else.

I looked on their Instagram and Twitter from this time last year. It looks like they started sending out decisions in the first week of February. Saw a post from Feb. 5 saying they sent out the results over email and saw a repost from Feb. 12 of a student receiving their results in the mail physically.

Actually @eskiboy your grades fit right into the profile of this years’ freshman art class Here’s some info from the Cooper admissions website (condensed for art):
Standardized test scores do not significantly enter the decision-making process for the Schools of Art and Architecture, but are important components of the engineering admissions criteria. The middle 50 percent of art freshmen achieved a high school average between 87 and 93, SAT scores between 1070 and 1260, and ACT composite scores between 25 and 28.

Good luck, hopefully you, @grasscoughing and @2017freshman are all accepted ED next month, that would be great!

@eskiboy honestly, from what I understand grades don’t really matter. My buddy from last years round had way lower scores and gpas than yours but her hometest was what got her in. If you’re confident in your work and you feel you did your best, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

on the subject of portfolio days, when I went to one at cooper it seemed kinda like the luck of the draw. The guy I got was really nice and enjoyed my stuff- we had a nice convo about my portfolio, but he but seemed super unexperienced, while some people with older professors reviewing looked like they were gonna cry!

good luck to you guys. hopefully we’ll be studying together in the fall!

@eskiboy @2017freshman Thanks! I felt the exact same way when I went for my profolio review. The woman reviewing me was very young and didn’t have much critique for me. I had already applied so she went over some home test rules stuff with me. Some of the other kids looked very dejected.

My hometest was such an experience; I felt so charged! I handed mine in, in person. I feel confident in about 4/6 of my pieces. As for the other two, I felt a little rushed and not as inspired. But, I never love every single piece I do, and I learned from that challenge. Best of luck to all of you !!

Where else have you guys applied?

my daughter applied to Cal Arts, RISD, SAIC, Pratt, NYU Tisch, and Reed (LAC thrown-in, just in case art school doesn’t work.) Was doing the Parsons application, and quit in the middle because she didn’t want to submit the home test, and she thinks it’s just too product oriented for her liking. (She’s mostly interested in performance art. ) Up until about 6 months ago, she was very torn about going to a LAC (Bard, Washington St Louis, etc) with a good art program vs an Art School. We visited Cooper, SAIC Pratt, MICA, CCA, San Francisco, PNCA, Vassar, and a few others. Cooper really stuck out for her, thus the ED application. She’s been accepted to SAIC already. Don’t think she will go, but you never know. Just barely finished the other applications, so we won’t know on those until late March/April. She felt about the same way about her home test. Three or 4 good ones, at least one was rushed. Had to take one apart completely because she didn’t read the directions carefully. Good luck to everyone. It’s 4 years that will likely be fantastic no matter where you go!

I applied to SAIC, accepted with a scholarship and considering it more because of that. I applied at the end of December to Pratt, MICA, PAFA, and CUNY Hunter College as my safety, yet to hear back. I was going to apply to RISD and Parsons but felt the same about the hometest and was burnt out. I also considered Bard and Vassar as well, great schools but the areas arent urban enough for my liking. I hope your daughter finds the right fit!

@grasscoughing i really hope you (and me, lol) get in!! i applied to carnegie as a second choice, risd as third and then pratt, mica, saic as generals haha but im mostly interesting in attending coop and carnegie so if those dont work out i doubt i’ll be attending the other schools… fingers crossed for cooper though!

FYI the beautiful Beyoncé photo announcing her pregnancy with twins was photographed by cooper A10 Awol Erizku

Likewise !! I honestly don’t have my hopes up for Cooper but ya never know. I’m probably gonna reapply next year and hopefully start again as a freshman. What is your medium of choice? @2017freshman

@grasscoughing Hopefully my major is gonna be sculpture, installation, and sitework. You never know though- 4 years is a while lmaooo. I’m more experienced with painting like acrylics but sculpture is my true love.

@2017freshman @grasscoughing ahhhHHHHHHHHH https://twitter.com/Cooper_Admiss/status/827612028026155008

Just dyin’ here. And I’m not even going to know until this weekend because daughter won’t open email until after Saturday. (Doesn’t want to possibly ruin the weekend)

@grasscoughing @eskiboy did you guys get one yet? I haven’t received an email…

The twitter account said unforeseen delays. “Hopefully this week”. They are having fun, I’ll bet.

Hopefully decisions will be out before the weekend haha does anyone know approximately how many students apply for ED art?

I JUST GOT IN OMGGGGGGG
