Coputer Science schools

Which are the best top 20 schools for computer science? I mean for international student.

[THE - QS World University Rankings 2009 - Engineering/Technology | Top Universities](http://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/world-university-rankings/2009/subject-rankings/technology)

is MIT a little prohibitive for int.students? i think yes, only 123 international students get in last year. In U.S.A are there university for computer science that are not impossible as MIT?

ps: @Almallaria: i have replied you to your private message.

Well, you were asking about the “top 20” colleges for computer science. By most CC means of measurement, the best colleges also happen to be the most selective ones. Which level of selectivity are you looking for? Do finances pose a limitation at all?

According to US News, the following universities are the best for computer science on the graduate level: [Rankings - Computer Science - Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-computer-science-schools/rankings)

Carnegie Mellon.

Arguably better than MIT for computer science

Berkeley is always in top 3 or 5. So it’s one of the best, but i don’t know why its costs are lower than MIT and also its admission statistics( i mean SAT scores).

Why?

Because it’s a state school. So of course it is much much cheaper than a private institution, and because of that it will also have lower statistics since it’ll have more applicants (and they have more students)

But on top of that, Berkeley and MIT are in two different levels. MIT is much harder to get into than Berkeley

Berkeley’s costs aren’t cheaper for international students! Yes, Berkeley tuition is cheaper than MIT’s, for CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS. Because the state of California subsidizes the education for those taxpayers.

Furthermore, Berkeley education is pretty different from a MIT education, too. MIT has so much more resources spread over fewer students. Berkeley is huge, haven’t you seen those threads in the Berkeley forum?

Not yet, i’ll take a look. So for internationa student is easier to get into Berkeley although it’s in top 5.
How much is difficult to get into MIT? I read some statistics and I was shocked, just two people from my country study there as undergraduate. I think that for international students are very important SAT exams and TOEFL because not worldwide schools offer extra-curricular activities, like clubs, or exams IB and AP.

MIT has an international admission rate of 4%. Berkeley’s international admission rate is 10%. Higher than MIT’s rate for sure, but “easier” might be the wrong term to use.

Those aren’t nearly as important as you think. A low score might disqualify you, but a high score will not get you into MIT. What MIT is looking for is evidence that you are among the most talented science or engineering students in your country! Some sort of award (e.g. from science olympiads), early college enrollment or independent work on a science project would work in your favor.

Thanks, i like computer science, i have partecipate two time at Compute Science Olympiad in my school, and also i am a Free Software supporter, i am doing some translation for fsf.org from english to italian and i have done a speech in my university about free software and i am going to reply it in my school, i write also articles for my school paper about computer Science. Maybe I will get in at fsf as volunteer this summer. I maintain my website. But you aren’t admission officer  .

I think that i have time, i’m 16. So i will do my EC’s stronger than now.
