Are incoming students able to pick their CORE profs? I don't see CORE listed as an option on the fall 2009 class schedule.
Are some CORE profs better than others for biology majors? It seems that most of the CORE teachers come from the humanities departments.
I know there are web sites out there that rate professors. Is one any better than another? Any personal recommendations in the CORE area?
Thanks for your help.

Nope, can’t pick your Core professor. “They” (i.e. the registrar and her motley crew, I’m fairly sure) register you automatically.

No, they changed that policy… starting with my class year (2012), you register yourself. However, you register whatever time block you want, and all the professors are listed as “TBA” so you don’t know your professor. I ended up with the CORE professor from hell, but there are also very good profs. It’s kind of irrelevant though since you don’t get to pick.

Ratemyprofessors.com is definitely the main and most popular website for professor reviews and I definitely recommend checking it before you choose which classes to register for.

Thanks - I’ve been to the ratemyprofessors site and find that about half of the CORE teachers are great and the other half really bad.
Any way to transfer out if you get a bad one?

You’re stuck with it for first semester, but there are ways to wiggle out of it second semester - which is what about half of my core class did. You have to go talk to someone higher-up (don’t remember exactly who) and say you have a class you absolutely have to take that conflicts with your core class. Sometimes they’ll let you switch into another class and other times they’ll make you stay in it. It really depends. I didn’t bother trying to switch but looking at my grade for this semester, I wish I did.

I noticed that this year, they also posted the names of the professors. So we are able to choose them.

where did they post the name of the professors…i don’t see it on the schedule.

Go here: <a href=“University of Richmond”>University of Richmond. and click Fall 2009 class schedule. For Core classes, like for any others, on the Instructor column there’s the name of the professor.

i still don’t see core on the list in the schedule though?

Ana, I’m not sure where you’re looking but the Core classes for Fall 2009 haven’t been posted yet.

I downloaded the class schedule about a week ago. There were also core classes, together with professors (between computer science and dance). I just checked the new class schedule, which seems to have been updated on May 21st, and indeed the Core classes do not appear anymore. Is it possible that they put them by mistake and deleted them now?

wow! thats sneaky of them… i wish i could pick my core teacher. i really do not want to get stuck with someone awful.
