Thanks for all the info everyone. I’m also confused. Can any one that got the Ingram semifinalist letter raise their hand? When did you receive the notification? thanks again
also putting in a word to “give it up” on overnights as diagnostic opportunities. It’s not realistic for a school with 30 thousand applicants to offer overnights! By the way, all these students are madly studying at night. My Vandy son did keep students for Mosaic and was quite happy to do so, but our sons’ overnight experiences were laughable/and totally not predictive of the value of the colleges they visited. Duke overnight: son is last one to get picked up at admissions on a rainy night by an odd MIA Duke student who can’t make eye contact who informs him that he was assigned to him as a prank by an upperclassmen. Leaves son at dorm alone with no key to the room and states he might be back at 4am. Son walks down to hear the Duke Symphony performance which just happened to be that night… (and where he later spent four fulfilling years as a violist). He rejoined me at the hotel after. Occasionally would pass his “host” on campus in later years. Had zero to do with the wonderful teachers, students, trips abroad and things that he took advantage of at Duke. Ways to judge fit: stay in your hotel and let your son or daughter dine solo in the campus cafes and go sit in the library at night which is where you see a lot of how things really go down. If permitted, sit in on classes. Give serious thought (by getting out on foot) to evaluate if the community around campus offers a life for your student who may not go Greek or have something (Band, Sport,Theater) that will offer an initial social circle on weekends. (Nashville is a wonderful venue for all students but certainly a positive for non Greeks). Nothing wrong with waiting to do any and all of this after your admission choices make themselves clear.
Is a MOSAIC invitation a judgement on one’s CV application?
Yeah does not getting MOSAIC indicate not getting the CV scholarship?
@bethackeray That’s a good question. We’ve got conflicted posts above. Some say that many CV scholars are not invited to Mosiac yet someone’s daughter (?) who is at Vandy said that they would all be invited this year. I called the financial aid/merit office and was told that Mosaic is completely separate from CV award. So, some CV winners may get an invite but some would not. There are a lot of CV winners, something like 160 , so I’m going to believe the person I spoke to on the phone. Plus, the CV scholarship has nothing to do with diversity so one can definitely win CV and not be the kind of student invited to Mosaic.
So … the CV scholarship not notified to anyone yet? I saw in other thread that a student got the chancellor.
Not as far as I know. I’m not expecting anything because I didn’t get invited to Mosaic… but we’ll see!
@bethackeray does that mean all Mosaic invites have been sent out? If that’s the case I would be lucky to get admission to vandy. I feel so horrible. X_X
As far as I know they have … me too. I’m honestly just hoping to get in with some decent financial aid at this point.
As far as I know, there are ~50 Chancellors and ~165 CVs … and MOSAIC invitations is about 200 … this means … MOSAIC is composed of only Chancellors and CVs??
@singingbear no I don’t think that’s right. I believe there are Mosiac kids who don’t get a scholarship. I was told the CV scholarship not announced until March. I haven’t seen any posts from anyone who has the CV scholarship.
My D19 got the MOSAIC packet with letter of acceptance but no scholarship info. Also, for what it is worth, the website says Cornelius Vanderbilt notifications come mid-March.
@momof2atl did your d19 get her packet today? Thank you
@asr712 yes she received the Mosaic package in the mail.
@momof2atl, so she received an email before the package? Thank you
@asr712 Yes she received an email on Valentine’s Day I think. The email invited her to Mosaic but did not state she was accepted. The letter in the packet stated she was admitted to the fall 2019 class and would receive additional information about admittance by April 1.
@momof2atl. Thank you so much
"Accepted and Chancellor Scholarship!!! We all are beyond happy !! Got it with Usps together with Mosaic invitation today Tuesday "
Posted on another thread.
As was the case with my kid two years ago, the Mosaic/Chancellor/early accept bundle arriving in mid-February by mail is again happening this year.
Although there’s conflicting posts on this, there doesn’t seem to be any particular connection between Mosaic and CV. I think CVs just hear when the CV decisions are made mid-March. Some kids getting a Mosaic invite may win a CV too, but I think those two programs are separate tracks.
Due to the focus of that schollie, there’s definitely a Mosaic/Chancellor connection.
This is from my D’s vandy admission counselor -
“MOSAIC actually has nothing to do with merit based scholarships. It is an entirely separate program that is specific for students who represent or resonate as a minority.”
However, not sure if all is true because what we hear from school is sometimes different from what we see at some places like CC.
@singingbear I already said that up thread …got the exact same answer when I called. Mosiac decisions aren’t even made by the scholarship committee. It’s a diversity event. Sometimes kids get invited to Mosiac and end up with one of the named scholarships.
