Overall, apps totalled 24,114. The overall admit rate should be about 25%.

The admit rate for the College of Arts and Sciences, where apps have risen 35% in the last two years, should be approximately 19%.

Wow....cornell already had the most apps of any Ivy....it now has a huge lot more apps than the next one down (harvard?).

In the past Cornell has increased the number of seats to accomodate number of applicants, which they should not do this time around. Getting down to 25% will put it in the possible-but-still-reach category, which should perpetuate more apps in the future.

I think the movie "Perfect Score" last year has more to do with this upward trend than anything the administration has done. Aside from the logo change (a great move), the other marketing efforts were borderline.

Going to the common app was certainly a factor.

DANGGGG...is it too late to write them a letter saying I want to apply to some other college? LOL

This royally sucks...of all the Ivies, I was banking that if I were to get into one, it would be Cornell merely because of their unusually high admit rate (with respect to other schools of its caliber...)

Hmm...guess that does kinda suck for the non-EDers.

yes, it really does, and I bet the admit rate will fall by several percentage points.

think of it this way guys, if you do get in the value of a cornell degree will go up also

i personally think it had a lot to do with the website redesign

I think it had a lot to do with common app creepers====>lazy people who do not truly love the big red. :D

So what are the predicted RD admit rates, particularly for CAS?

I think the consensus is about 18% since it had the biggest increase. BOOO. :(

Oh yeah, but of course this is all purely speculation, especially since Cornell has been known to accomodate more students in the past when more have applied.

If they admit the same number of people as last year, the overall admit rate will be 25.4%, and the admit rate for the College of Arts and Sciences will be about 19.7% - both record lows.

They may admit fewer if they are prepared to make heavier use of the waitlist. (I think they took 171 of the WL last year.)

The dicy calculation will be whether the new marginal applicants - many of whom may have been attracted by the switch to the common admit form - will be as likely as last year's applicants to enroll if admitted.

hate to cause a panic or anything, but word around campus is that theyre going to actually admit LESS then last year in order to decrease admission rates, and to ensure enough beds during the transitional phase of the west campus residential initiative...just a rumor though...

Cornell intends to maintain a Freshman Class Size of 3050 students

This report notes that "A key element of the first-year freshman enrollment plan was the construction of a conservative admit and yield model and the aggressive use of the waitlist."

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

wow I got in ED to CAS, I almost feel smaart now lol

and I 2nd potlers good luck to everyone, seriously! GOOD LUCK (too lazy to type it in big red-muahaha I get it lol)

i'm a deferred applicant and this is NOT GOOD

Yeah dang this is definitely a BIG THUMBS DOWN! I'm not coming here anymore, I'm now officially a Upenner :p

Now.. I feel bad for my friends who didn't apply ED... especially the ones who applied to CAS...
