Cornell Architecture App - Help?

I'm submitting a portfolio to Cornell Architecture, I have a 10-piece painting portfolio already but I need to include 5-10 other pieces to complete it. My painting is not particularly detailed, it is expressive portraiture and abstraction. I would love some advice on what to include for applying to Architecture. I know free hand drawing is required, but what kind of freehand drawing could be best?

I also have an interview with an alumni in two days, I'm not too concerned but if anyone wants to give advice or has knowledge of the interview I'd love it!

Thanks so much for the help!

Hi! I applied for art this year, so a bit different, but I still had to go through the portfolio submissions and interview process and all of that. Here’s some notes on the interview I did: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cornell-university/1421297-ed-applicants-current-students-alumni-alumni-interviews-details.html

I don’t know what you should include for architecture in particular, but I can offer opinions on your work if you want :)

Hope that’s somewhat helpful!

Could you post your portfolio?

This is my painting portfolio that I submitted to Stanford earlier this year. I was really going for a continuous body of work, I haven’t posted my freehand drawing work yet. I’m looking to diversify a little, because I know I’m very painting-heavy. I’m doing a large sculpture now however!

Oh my. I think these are absolutely fantastic. I really enjoy your varying strokes and sense of movement and I think that having a continuous body of work is really going to help you out on your applications. The paintings almost look like video stills which is really fascinating. I love your style. Where do you study, if you don’t mind?

Thanks so much!! I’m at The Governor’s School in Richmond, Virginia. We have a fantastic, albeit small, art program. My art teacher has won numerous awards.

Ahhhh! I figured you went to a good art program. I go to the Governor’s School for the Arts in South Carolina :)

Yeah mine isn’t for the arts which is sad :frowning: We only get 90min studio time every other day, I had to make most of this portfolio at home. I did almost every piece in September

I’m sorry I can’t help with your question but just wanted to let you know I think that is some extraordinary work. No doubt you’ll be successful in what you pursue but I hope you find the opportunities at Cornell or otherwise that make you happy has well.

Oh! Well, you have definitely taken advantage of your resources there. Like I said, I don’t know about arch, but as an art portfolio you’d get some fiinnneeeeee scholarships!

Thanks so much guys  I really love painting, I’ll be exhibiting at a gallery at the end of this school year
