CORNELL CALS TRANSFER...please give me my chances

hello. my name is john and i am currently a sophomore at the university at albany. although this is a very fun school (as most of you have probably heard), i do not find it to be as intellectually stimulating as i had previously hoped. i am a biology/biochemistry major and the program seems to be very weak (lack of research opportunities, apathetic faculty, etc.) so i applying to cornell university C.A.L.S. for fall 2006 admission.

my transcript is as follows:
freshman: semester 1
bio 1 A-
chem 1 A
chem 1 lab A
calculus 1 W
humanities A-

freshman: semester 2
bio 2 A
chem 2 A
chem 2 lab A
statistics A
peer psych 1 A

summer class: (at stony brook university)
calculus 1 : A

soph: semester 1
genetics 1 B+ (at least)
org. chem 1 B+ (at least)
org. chem 1 lab A- (at least)
english A
peer psych 2 A

overall gpa: 3.85 (at least)

SAT: verbal 640 math 690

extra curriculars:
i am a...
-presidential scholar
-employee of the department of residential life - Resident Assistant (RA)
-member of the presidential honor society
-member of the national society for collgiate scholars (NSCS)
-member of the member of the pre-medical club
-member of the biology club
- i have volunteered at the northeastern regional food bank
- i organized the state quad holiday food drive
- certified in cpr by the american heart association

i think that my one flaw is the W i took in calculus 1. i chose to withdraw because the class was taught by a professor that hardly spoke english and refused to curve despite the extremely low class average (~52). i was earning a B+ in the course but decided to withdraw and take it at stony brook that summer (since i knew i would get the grade i deserved with any other professor).

i attended cornell university transfer day which should show my dedication. i am a new york state resident as well.

IF ANYONE COULD GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK REGARDING MY CHANCES IN BEING ADMITTED TO CORNELL UNIVERSITY C.A.L.S. IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

I got in this spring semester to CALS and I dont think my stats are as good as yours. I did have a 4.0 with four honors classes but your extra curriculurs seem to be alot better than mine. i dont know about you essays though

What were your stats Cornellacceptee?

what college did you transfer from?

i think if you write brilliant essays (a necessary for any cornell prospie) you'll have a good shot.

you're golden...I wouldn't sweat it too much (I take it that you are a NY state resident???).

Good Luck

I will be transfering from cuyahoga community college in ohio my stats are;
High school GPA was not great by any means 2.23 or something. Never took the SAT's just the ACT's and I got a 24. In fact my high school career was ridiculously terrible. However, I went to a community College for 3 semester and eaned 41 credits (including this one) and I got all A's in every one of them I was involvoved in the Honors Society (PTK) and took 4 diifferent classes at the honors level (including honors calc which was brutal). I got an unbelievable recomendation from the honors cordinator at tri-c and he basically said I was one of the brightest students he seen in 30 years of teaching. I worked on some of my essays since my senior year in highschool cause I kept reusing them from previous writing assignments and previous college applications, so in other words I spent alot of time on my application. I also got accepted into Case Western Reserve University and universtiyt of miami but I am definately going to Cornell over the spring.
Hope this helped

Thats pretty cool Cornellacceptee...I'm in the same position only I'll only have about 35 credits when I apply to transfer, and college GPA is a little lower.

I applied to CALS for the applied economics program. What about you?

I'm applying to ILR
