Cornell Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

@Islandmg
Didn’t the dean of your school personally email you? I think you have nothing to worry about.

I almost feel like the schools should not tell you when they are releasing the results so that all of this stress doesn’t happen! Why couldn’t Cornell be rolling!!!

Also WOOHOOO page 200!!!

@22HoursCornED
Yeah, the dean of CALS emailed me and asked me if there was anything I wanted to add to my application and if I was ok with my major. Then she suggested to my guidance counselor that I change majors to Biology and Society because it would fit me better, so I did that and also got to write another essay as a supplement about that specific major so they have 3 essays on file for me about 3 different things.I think her emailing me was a really good sign. It was like,a personal email, so why would they take the time if thy didn’t like me you know?

@Islandmg
Yes i’m sure that you got in. Kind of unfair that you got a second chance but you obviously had nothing to do with it. Early congrats, all good feels!!

@dehca2016 Hi,
I’ve been continuously checking this page for months, but never made an account until tonight when I was moved by your post. A lot of people have already responded to you and have said mostly everything I wanted to say. The most important thing, which you said yourself, is that you have changed and grown throughout highschool into a more determined person. When you’re older, your “high school experience” won’t matter much. What will matter is the things you learned, how you used them to succeed, and the choices you’ve made after high school. It seems to me that you’ve learned a lot about yourself and have truly changed. Good luck tomorrow and no matter what happens, it is meant to be. You’ll find somewhere else, and you’ll flourish. Keep a positive attitude and don’t be so hard on yourself. You have your whole life ahead of you.
Good luck pal.

Good luck all!

@22HoursCornED
I really hope so! I’m glad that someone thinks I got in haha. My best friend has been talking to my college advisor about all this (the same one who talked to the dean before) because I have asked not to be given any early information about if I got in or not, but apparently they had a 30min talk today on the phone and are also gonna talk tomorrow, both times about me specifically so what does that mean?

Good luck to everyone by the way! Even if half of us make it in it will be a great freshman class

@dehca2016 you’ve only lived a small fraction of your life thus far. a mere 17 (or 18) years. you haven’t even fully developed physically yet. your brain is still developing. your bones are continuing to grow. you have so much ahead of you, and so much to look forward to.

you’re about to go to college in about 8 months where you’ll experience things you’ve never even thought of, you’ll learn things that excite you and stimulate your brain, you’ll have thousands of people you have the opportunity to meet and connect with, and most importantly, you’ll learn about yourself and keep changing and molding yourself into the wonderful human being you are and will continue to be.

it’s just high school. a short 4 years of your life that you’ll be able to reminisce about 10 years from now with nostalgia. this is the end of a chapter in your life, but the beginning of a new one. a fresh new start, so make the best of it. don’t waste time dwelling on the past, you have so much ahead of you

omg i just realized i probably sound really preachy… hahaha, sorry! >:D<

longest 24 hours of my life. Does anyone want to chance me or want me to chance you? PM me! I seriously can’t get this out of my head…

21 hours 4 minutes and 10 seconds :open_mouth:

Good luck everyone!

Good luck guys and gals! Hope to see you all in Ithaca next Fall. Visit when you can; it’s a beautiful campus!

are chances really higher if you apply for an obscure/unpopular major? if you have the ECs and classes for it?

So everyone I know that’s ever gone to ILR has gotten a guaranteed transfer first, pretty nervous about that…

@eaglehawk7 Well they consider your major and how you fit the major and school. If there are fewer people applying to your major, naturally, they will be less selective. How much it helps though, is the question.

good luck people!

I felt compelled to post something that I hope helps everyone. I am a Cornell grad and my kid is applying early decision. I hope he gets in tomorrow, but I (like your loved ones) will be proud and excited wherever he goes.

I will humbly offer the same advice I have shared with my kid.

I loved Cornell, and I have had a successful career. But the vast majority of the most successful people I have met did not go to an IVY/IVY comparable school. They were were awesome, hard working people defined by their capabilities, not their college. If you are successful enough academically to consider Cornell as an alternative, you are going to do great things wherever you go. If you get in, celebrate. If you don’t, anticipate you will get in somewhere else where you can find great fulfillment. Now go hug someone who loves you (and loved you long before you even heard of Cornell) and get a good night sleep knowing that everything will work itself out.
