Cornell Class of 2020 Regular Decision Discussion Thread

Trying to upload some of my idoc forms online and cornell isn’t listed. I’m assuming it takes college board some time to update my list of schools? I’m applying to a lot so maybe that’s why…

@Ngzk07 Yeah. I was about to come on here to ask about the same thing. I’m applying to 7 schools that require IDOC and Cornell is the only one not on there.

@XoXdreamerXoX My IDOC status on the To Do List says Ordered? I’m confused lol

@Ngzk07 That doesn’t show up on mine. It just says:

1150 people were deferred. How many will get off? Cornell accepts around 800 legacies a year and they’ve taken 300 so far. I think most deferred people are legacies and they’ll around 200 legacies off

@senior12321 You have to also consider that there are many legacies that applied ED were accepted and aren’t in those 1150 people. Also it depends on the distribution between the different colleges. Any specific college may have deferred a bunch of people as compared to other colleges who may have only deferred a few applicants. We really don’t know any info about this stuff bc their are so many factors lol.

@CCSenioritis most ivies defer half but cornell defers less than a quarter. They accepted around 1300 but 700 were either minority, international, or athletes. They say that around 500 will be taken regular. There’s about 600 legacies out of the 1150 deferred applicants (congrats if you were deferred without legacy) they will probably take 200 of those 600 legacies and the other 300 legacies from the RD pool. Many ivies have said they will defer legacy and wait to take them regular for yield, which makes sense because most ED legacies will go if accepted after deferral. These numbers obviously fluctuate a little each year.

Basically if you were a legacy with the stats to get in don’t be pessimistic about being deferred. It could have been with the immediate attention to accept you regular

Where did you find the statistic that they will accept around 500 in the regular pool? It makes sense about the yield stuff though.
(Sorry if i sound pessimistic here lol I’m just being curious haha)

500 legacies? Or total? I’m confused!! Legacy is so silly. The two apps are so not the same. My kid could go to my alma mater Scott free…and he still would not even consider it…rightly so.

Others have parents who went to a school they cannot get into themselves.

Legacy is just weird.

@CCSenioritis the cornell daily sun said 22.8% accepted early were legacies which is about 300. Other Cornell websites says it fluctuates from 15-17 percent of Cornells total acceptances (rd and ed) are legacies. This is around 800-900 people. If they took 300 so far that’s 500-600 left for regular. However, legacy does not help regular as cornell has stated. I believe most legacies accepted regular are deferred early

@HRSMom look at my post above

If Mu uncle went to Cornell am I considered a legacy?

I think Cornell only counts parents and grandparents for legacy status. @redbluegreen19

That’s what I was thinking when that portion of the application came up. Just clearing up some things thanks

@CCSenioritis just wondering are you a deferred legacy?

@senior12321 Deferred, yes. Legacy, no. I wish I was though.

That’s an accomplishment though! @CCSenioritis

What’s this IDOC thing we have to fill out? College Board hasn’t emailed me yet, and I know for sure that many of my schools (not just Cornell) require it.

I applied RD and received a call about EOP… I know I don’t qualify (my income is above the guidelines) but does that mean I’ve already been deemed inadmissible?
