Cornell Class of 2020 Regular Decision Discussion Thread

What I was told is that different colleges (within Cornell) and different programs have different requirements for interviews. I was just applying to CAS and CAS doesn’t offer formal interviews. I am aware that other programs do.

Just had my “informal interview” Saturday at a local Starbucks. My interviewer was great! We talked for an hour about Cornell and CHE, since she was part of that school. For anyone who has the chance to meet with an alumni interviewer, do it! It was a great way to learn more about the school, and for the school to know more about you.

I had my interview today as well. Went pretty well

Had my alumni meeting tonight. My ‘interviewer’ said these meetings were prescreened due to our test scores and GPA. He knew my intended major and extracurriculars. Weird, but fun conversation!

@Demosthenes12 what does your interviewer mean by prescreened?

@Demosthenes12 The alumni are not supposed to have our GPA and test scores. They should know our major and college at cornell though. that’s weird that they knew that

@DAVE437 I’m gonna guess that he meant only the applicants with the best test scores and gpa were given interviews.
I don’t know if he’s actually right. I mean why would Cornell want to know more about the kids that are sure to get in. Wouldn’t they want to know more about borderline kids thus giving them interviews?

All applicants are given the chance to have an interview if their is an active CAAAN club in their area. Each volunteer alumni is given a certain number of students to interview. The interview is purely informational however it can show interest in cornell and your interviewer can stress certain things on their report to make your application look better.

Can someone tell me when do cornell give likely letters, and do international students also get them?

Don’t only athletes really get likely letters?

I saw the sheet my alumni had on my information and it didn’t include my test scores or GPA… So that sounds odd to me too.

Nervous about my interview this evening @ au bon pain

@HRSMom Cornell gave out likely letters to URM’s and females in engineering around march 14th of last year. It was for a diversity hosting and they needed to give early notice to admits enough time to prepare for the hosting.

Interesting…

Hi! I applied Cornell and submitted my app around mid-December. My friends in my school also applied Cornell. They already had their interviews. But no one has contacted me yet. Does that mean I will not get an interview?

@PWANG96 Interview reports are due feb 15th so you can get contacted for an interview until then. After that it’ll either be purely informational w/ no report or you just won’t get contacted. Either way won’t hurt your application.

I’ve tried to find some info but haven’t found much. does anyone know how difficult it is for someone deferred from SHA to get in RD? has anyone on here had that happen to them or know anybody that it has happened to? do i still have a chance or is it just a polite rejection…

@litlhoward2468 Look through the results threads from past years. There are people who’ve been accepted after being deferred from the hotel school.

@CCSenioritis oh i didn’t even think of that! thanks ill look in that thread

My interviewer was very intimidating haha
