Cornell Cognitive Science ED worth it

Well, ED is a big decision. No one other than herself shall make that decision.

I would suggest she visit the school and think about what she really wants to get from Cornell, and make the decision thereafter.

My son wants to ED Cornell as well. He is a down to earth guy. He wants a CS major from an Ivy League, wants some place to equip him with very marketable skills, and wants to be friend with smart guys. I think Cornell is a good fit.

Thank you everyone for the valuable inputs, it really helped in making a calculated decision.

I’m late to this thread, but we are also from California and my son applied to a number of Cognitive Science programs a couple of years ago. I would say that UCSD is definitely worth exploring – they have a great program.

Also, it’s worth taking a look a McGill, in Montreal. They have a very robust CogSci program, have a great international reputation, have a sort-of rolling admissions (they accept their strongest students pretty quickly – often within a couple of weeks after applying, is a very easy application (no essays, no LOR) and is much less expensive than comparable institutions for a cog sci degree (excepting UCs for a CA resident, of course). The way it works is that McGill has different tuitions for different degrees (BA is less than BS, etc) and for some reason CogSci is one of their few “inter faculty” programs and falls under the Bachelor of Arts and Science degree (BA&Sc) and their tuition for this degree is 44k Canadian which right now is about 34k US based on the exchange rate. Room and board is about 13k US, and gets less expensive after first year because apparently Montreal is not super expensive cost of living for apartments or groceries, if you want to go that route. They also offer a lot of AP credit, so your student might be able to save a year of education/tuition if they have a lot of APs.

Anyway, just another college to potentially consider.

Agree, McGill has a great CogSci program, and it is a small, very personal program with easy access to a dedicated advisor and guaranteed lab research.
