Cornell Dorm Choices...

Hey, I was accepted early decision to Cornell University and am looking at the different residence halls available. I know that students (especially first year students) don't really have a choice about which halls they live in, however, I was considering requesting a dorm in the Balch Hall. I'm just wondering what you guys think about the Residence halls at Cornell and which ones you think are the best and worst. Thanks,

I’m a guy, so my opinion on Balch might me nothing, but I know a bunch of girls who did live in Balch. Most of them would have preferred somewhere else, but most admitted they liked the larger rooms and overall liked the experience. It tends to be less social and more quiet, but that also depends on your hallmates and their level of social activity. As for the other dorms, Donlon is most social (the shape of the building, which is a thong, help make it good for social interaction). Dickson is probably second most social (but I could be wrong on that), but the rooms aren’t that great/old. I lived in Court/Kay/Bauer which is newer and my hall was pretty social. The rooms are nice. The high/low rises are awful for social interaction (the shape of the building isolates people) and the rooms are older/not the greatest. The town houses are sweet and you get to be pretty independent. The rooms are FAR from the main campus so you’ll be walking a decent amount. They tend to have their own parties (since they are hard to control), and form their own nice community, however, it’s not the best place for meeting new people.

That’s all I can think of for now in regards to a dorm.

I’m thinking I will request a dorm in Balch Hall. I like the fact that it’s one of the quieter dorms and especially that it seems to have bigger rooms. Thanks for your input,
