Hey, I’m currently a rising senior at the University of Maryland who plans to graduate by December 2022. I was planning to complete my master’s in Computer Science but am willing to transfer to Cornell’s graduate CS program to complete it. I was wondering if this is possible and if so how and when do I apply?
In addition what criteria does Cornell use to judge student’s performances(GPA, Internships, Research, etc…)?
It is however, entirely normal to get your bachelor’s degree at one university, and then get a master’s degree at a different university.
You can search the Cornell University web site and find the information about the master’s degree program in CS at Cornell. I just Googled “Cornell University Master’s Program CS” and found a good description. You will note that there is a place to click to get information on admissions.
You should note that this is a highly competitive program for admissions and you would be well advised to apply to other schools as well. Quite a few of the students in any good master’s program in CS will have some work experience after they get their bachelor’s degree and before they get their master’s degree.
Many decades ago I got a master’s degree in a different but somewhat related field at a different but equally selective university. There were students there who had gotten the bachelor’s degree at a very wide range of universities. Probably at least half of them (including me) had some work experience.
Agree entirely with @DadTwoGirls comments. Would just add that grad programs generally do not give any credit for grad courses completed at your undergrad institution or another grad program.
