Greetings College Confidential! I'm on a trip to Cornell and I'm in love! I originally didn't think of applying, but my parents are encouraging me to give it a shot. I need your help though. I would like to take Computer Engineering.

Background: I am from NY, and am 100% filipino American, youngest in my family. Parents are both immigrants and my Brother graduated from Boston University, my sister from FIT. My school is a public High School and is the highest rated in my County.

Schools I'm applying to:

RPI

University of Michigan

Rochester University

Binghamton

GPA: Very low for my school. 94.77[3.7908]. My school weighs all grades specially, and doesn't provide unweighted grades. I am still in the top 20% of my graduating class, but according to a program (naviance) the average accepted GPA of students that are accepted to Cornell is ~98.

Freshman: 94.29 3.7716
Sophomore: 96.033.8412
Junior: 93.993.7596

To pick up slack for my grades I'm taking on a tough Senior schedule: AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C, AP English Literature, AP Microeconomics. I spoke to several doctors about my condition, and have formulated a plan to combat it if I am affected. I plan to perform strongly this year.

AP's: Disgusting. Chemistry: 3; Physics B: 3; World History: 4.

SAT's: Nowhere near stellar as well. Retaking.
SAT 1: M: 680; CR: 640; W: 730. -2050. Realistically hoping for 700's all around, but shooting for a 2200+. Retaking in October.
SAT 2: Math 2: 640; Chemistry: 750. Retaking Math 2 in November, hoping for 750+.

Extra Curriculars/awards:

Piano for 12 years: Annual recitals at the local mall; Private recitals every June.

Saxophone for 5 years:

Wind Ensemble 10-12: This is more of an elective in my school, but it is particularly selective. <30 members, compared to the regular 80+ in the Concert band.

Jazz band 9-12: First chair Tenor Sax 10-12
Pep band 9-12: Pep band for school's football team. (Very fun!)

NYSSMA 10-11.
10: All County. Tenor Sax
11: [most likely] Area All-state, All County. Tenor Sax

Varsity Tennis 8-12: played for 7 years; Accepted to Varsity as an 8th grader. Moved up the ranks, to 1st doubles Junior year. Made it to leagues. Also won the Scholar Athlete award (Highest GPA on the team) Junior Year during theTennis Season.

Academic league 10-12: Starting member Senior year;
Mu Alpha Theta 9-12; (Math Honor Society) Secretary Senior year

Community Service:

Music/Community Service Club 11-12: we are a small group that performas at a local assisted living facility for the elderly in my community.

Midnight Run: Every few months, ~5 hours each time, in a assigned van to help the homeless.

Altar Serving: Local church, several times a month for the past 6+ years.

Other:
Columbia University Summer program 2011: 56 hours; 3 weeks: Introduction to Programming in C
PLTW certificate for completing all PLTW (engineering) courses offered by my school
Online Course: Mathematics of Electricity
Part of a large ethnic group;
2nd place in School Talent Show (dancing)
Published several articles for the foreign language journal
Written for School Newspaper

Next Year I plan to compete in Science Olympiad as well as join the Solar car Club. I am getting recommendations from the head of the PLTW department who is also the Varsity Tennis Coach. I think I'll get my second from my English teacher.

My dilemma lies with ED. I wish to ED to Cornell, but my SAT scores are too low. I don't have time to retake both the SAT 1 and SAT 2 before the ED application deadline (November 1). I would like to know if I could retake the SAT 2 in November and send the score a little after the deadline. I think it's risky because with a 640 in Math 2 I feel I would be quickly rejected by the school.

Please provide feedback for me! I am interested in what you all think.

PS. Will being Filipino help me get in at all? I get nervous bubbling in Asian on standardized tests. I don't think we compare to Indians/Chinese/Korean Americans.
