I was wondering, can you double major even if you're in ILR which only has the ILR major? Like can you also combine and perhaps take another major at, let's say, CAS even though you are at ILR? Like maybe Industrial and Labor Relations and a Philosophy major. Also, for current ILR students, how rigorous do you feel ILR is? Is it extremely hard?

1) You can’t double major across colleges, but you can minor across colleges.
2) I’m not a current ILR student, but my friends in ILR say most courses involve extensive reading and essay writing, so it can vary on rigor depending on how strong you are in those two areas.

You can look into pursuing a dual-degree where you are enrolled in two colleges. You’d have to work with the school administration on that though to fit your particular circumstances to see if it’s viable. Like the above poster said, I would look into pursuing a minor(s) instead, especially if you’re looking for something that’s more a supplement to your ILR degree.

I’m not in ILR, but my impression is the workload is fairly reading-intensive (I was a Govt/Econ major which is a very rough proxy for ILR in CAS, plus I know a lot of ILRies). For some, having to spend the time reading counts as rigor. For me, classes that were reading heavy I always preferred to describe as time-consuming, reserving the term ‘rigor’ for classes that required higher level critical thinking (but weren’t necessarily time consuming). And from what I can tell from ILR, it’s fairly easy to get away with not doing all the reading. Or at the very least, you can reduce the rigor if you develop excellent skimming skills, which is a real skill.

Dual degree is tough-I’m in ILR and looked into doing it with CAS but that would require 100 credit hours within CAS which is infeasible.
