I am not from Cornell...but I do not think it is a lesser Ivy than the others.

In any case, Cornell's research is very close to Harvard and the rest.

JBS is amongst the top tier every time.

Admin, please delete this thread...

Admins do not delete threads. CC is developed as a type of archive of college information. In some way shape or form, the founders hope that the info contained in this thread will help future applicants.

Also, do not talk about the moderators, it is impolite and a violation of TOS

“…why is Brown tougher (lowest acceptance rate of ivies except PHY and many elites) than say Penn, and Dartmouth despite the fact that both Penn and Dartmouth clearly offer a better education both for U-grads and Grad students”

One of the biggest loads of B.S. I’ve ever read.

arcadefire, 4 years later… really?

All the ivy leagues are such great schools…even if some people consider Cornell to be the ‘worst’ ivy because of higher admit rates or whatever, its still a lot better than most colleges…

most of the basis for Cornell being the ‘worst college’ that I’ve heard comes from the fact that it has the ‘highest acceptance rate.’ U Chicago has a high acceptance rate (about 28% in 2008) and still considered good college. Jarvis Christian College and Rust college have acceptance rate lower than cornell.

brown probably has such a low rate because it’s a smaller school. also, it’s dam beautiful.

Old thread is old.

the US rankings, do they rank schools on the quality of education? if that’s so, then Brown is worse than Cornell, statistically speaking…

let this thread die.

Nope, 10char
lol don’t kill
me for necrobumping

There is no “best” or “worst” college. Williams and Harvard may rate #1 in USNWR Forbes, etc. and are clearly among the cream-of-the cream, but are they necessarily “better” than Amherst, Stanford, M.I.T., etc.? No: the top tier are all great schools, but differ. Better to ask what college is a better choice for the given applicant. Cornell is a great school, 'nuff said.

rankings are stupid you’re not going to miss out on an internship or a job because you went to cornell instead of harvard. people aren’t going to think you’re “dumber” than a harvard student, you certainly won’t be less happy at Cornell, and your education will surely be just as good. Rankings at that level make literally no difference; who really checks rankings besides people applying to colleges anyway?

Everything comes down to poo.

Good thing California didn’t pass Proposition 19, or we would have more high posters.

Joke lol.

So what if people think Cornell is the worst Ivy? It’s still any Ivy.

All Ivies have excellent students, faculties, and facilities. Cornell is distinctive for the breadth of education offered on its gorgeous campus, perched on a hill in America’s best college town.

It is needless to compare ivy league schools. Each and every ivy league university is world-renowned and holds the highest prestige. On the other hand, cornell arts and science is the smallest among all the ivy leagues and has the lowest percentage acceptance. The reason cornell has an overall high acceptance rate is because they have the capacity to hold more students. Cornell has undoubtly one of the largest university campus in the world.

However for all those who still depend on rankings, according to Times Higher Education rankings for 2010- 2011, cornell is ranked 14th in the world among the top 200 schools, and surpasses the rankings of Dartmouth, Brown, UPenn and Coloumbia.
Cornell University is one of the world’s most esteemed institution.

k but please stop necroing

I haven’t read the whole thread, but whether you like it not a majority of people care about rankings.
