Cornell or Berkeley?

…i was hoping this thread will be more of a berkeley/cornell pros and cons thread rather than some financial issues thread but its cool

boy there must be 20 threads on this same topic,

Yeah, that’s sorta true…I just sent in a payment for $2700 on my property taxes…I looked up my neighbor down the street who’s lived in the neighborhood since the early 70s…she pays $700. :(

Sorry buddy.

Hmm…Berkeley and Cornell both have fantastic engineering programs and badass clock towers:

Do you prefer a more dynamic urban environment like the city of Berkeley and San Francisco Bay Area provide (you can get around easily via BART trains)? Or do you like the more bucolic, rural town setting of Ithaca?

I visited both cornell and berkeley…I think I would prefer a city that’s larger than Ithaca but berkeley’s wayy to large and urban

That’s undemocratic if you ask me. Shouldn’t people of similar means and resources be contributing the same amount to their community?

I chose Cornell over Berkeley a few years ago and have never regretted my choice.

A few reasons:

 1. To get away from CA. I love California, the weather, and the people. But, I don’t believe people should spend their entire lives in one state. There’s a lot of things to love about California but there’s also a lot of things to love about the Midwest or Ithaca (I’ve spent 5+ years on the East Coast, West Coast, Midwest each).

Financially it was about even. Cornell has a higher COA for CA resident obviously but offered me more financial aid so it evened out. I didn’t get any grants from UC Berkeley.

I visited Berkeley on Cal Day and had a terrible time. What a disorganized mess. I love large schools in general. But, the two schools are not equally large. For me, Cornell was the perfect fit since it provided every opportunity I needed to succeed but gave me the freedom to utilize those opportunities however I wanted. Schools that are too small tend to be stifling. Schools that are too large tend to offer too little services in proportion to their student body.
