Is the racism and hate speech found in the Cornell American and Cornell Review typical of Cornell?
I saw the Cornell American atricle about Ithaca-Compton and found it to be blatently racist. I was offended my acticity fee would be going towards such a racist publication.
Cornell seems to have several conservitive papers but no liberal ones. Are there any liberal/progressives at Cornell?

the majority of Cornell is liberal.

I f*ucking hate the Cornell American. I think it's soo racist and worthless. One of the recent titles was even "defending the great white might" - just retarded. The name Cornell should be removed from the title in general. It's just my opinion, but anybody who honestly takes the "Cornell American" seriously has issues.

Look for the paper "turn left." It's the big liberal publication on campus.

And please, the "Cornell American" reflects the opinion of 1% of the campus. Even a bunch of my republican/conservative friends were offended by publishings in the Cornell American. Not an accurate representation of the views shared by the campus in general.

I'm sorry you had to read what was said in the Cornell American.

If you look at the Cornell Daily Sun's archives, you'll find that, for weeks after the publication of that article, students and faculty were writing letters to the editor condemning and complaing about that article. Most recently, Prof. Anna Marie Smith wrote a letter in the Sun that called for the removal of support for the American almost a month and a half after that Ithaca-Compton article was written. While her views are pretty extreme, most Cornellians do agree that that particular article was very offensive.

most mainstream students find the review rather right wing and the american rediculous and racist.

the conservative papers on campus are universally quite discredited.

you can find the liberal paper Turn Left's take on the Cornell American here:

as well as here:

of course turn left can be viewed as out there on the other end too :p but yes, the papers in the wings aren't representative of the average student opinion. the Daily Sun is a better representation of the opinions of and things important to the average student. When the administration/PR division wants to make a response to a campus issue, it's USUALLY through a letter to the Sun. www.cornellsun.com
