My oldest daughter is interested in one of the Cornell Summer College courses for high schoolers, specifically Equine Practice. Does anyone have any experience with these? Is it competitive to get in? I know Ithaca must be beautiful in the summer so that’s not a problem! Thanks.
My daughter did the engineering summer program in 2016 and really enjoyed it. She is a freshman at Cornell now, and said that while it wasn’t really like college life (the RA’s in the summer college are really strict and the dining options are very limited), it helped her with the transition to college this year. She even got one of her freshman seminars out of the way. I don’t know anything about the Equine program. Admissions doesn’t seem to be very strict, but it’s rolling and some programs fill quickly. Keep in mind that these are college courses for credit, so your grades follow you to college. Ithaca is amazing in the summer! The dorms are not air conditioned though, and if you get a hot summer like my daughter did, it can get sticky. My son is planning on doing it this summer, and he is very excited to spend the summer there.
@patatty - Thanks for the feedback.
I did a class in summer '16 and I loved it. But it was hard to study and focus so getting a good grade while taking a course there could be tough. I just submitted my ED application to Cornell
Does anyone know how hard it is to do well in these classes? Since it’s a college credit and the grade follows you, I just want to make sure it’s not super stressful. I know it will be challenging though.
