Cornell Tranfer

I am a community college student, attending Borough of Manhattan community college and I will be graduating next semester with an Associate’s in Bus Admin. I have a 3.8 GPA and I am intereted in transfeering to Cornell’s Applied Economics and Management program or Communication major. I do not have any extra curricular activities. Do you think I have a chance?

Have you already applied? Have you run the NPC and determined that it is likely to be affordable?

I think that it is worth an application, but I would also apply to safeties.

There should be transfer specialists at your community college who would know your chances better than I would.

Do you have a job? A family you take care of? What do you do when you’re not in class? Everything you do when you’re not in class is an EC.

Run the NPCs to make sure it’s affordable.
You may have a shot, depending on your activities outside of class.
And of course apply to Baruch/honors, NYU Stern (not sure if HEOP is possible for transfers), SUNY Albany…

I am a full time Uber driver beside my studies and I live in Brooklyn. I will apply to Baruch’s Zicklin school. But I wanted to apply to Cornell either at AEM program or ILR with whichever I would have more chance of getting admitted as a transfer.

I haven’t applied yet. I do have a designated advisor at BMCC but they seem to be more knowledgable about CUNY and SUNY colleges.

Excellent. So, you’re handling your studies while holdinga full time job and you manage to have a 3.8. You’ll have to highlight this, as well perhaps as the challenges it brings but also how it made you grow and think. Being an Uber driver would make you uniquely positioned to discuss important labor issues such as hourly wage v. Salary v. Gig economy, the place of benefits in worker’s “compensation”, tech implications for labor relations, millennial and unionization, the post pandemic Uber/lyft driver’s shortage… Something 18 year olds typically applying to Cornell would not (or rarely) have a personal experience of.

As far.as ECs go, I suppose there’s not much time to do anything else
However if you’re active in your faith community or a sports league, etc, it can be added.

It’s easier to get into ILR than into AEM.

Agree that it is easier to get admitted to Industrial and Labor Relations than to Applied Economics and Management at Cornell. Nevertheless, getting admitted to Cornell is not easy so it would be best to apply to several schools which are affordable & of interest to you.

Thank you for your informative response. I just saw the notification of your comment(It was supposed to be automatically sent via my email).

I will be graduating with an A.S degree in Business Administration from Borough of Manhattan Community college next semester( fall, 2021). I am a resident of NY.
As of now my GPA is 3.9 with two honors classes( PSY 100H and FNB250H-Money and Banking). By the time I graduate I will have almost 80 credits completed( it’s taking me 5 semester to get my associate as I switched my major several times, therefore, aggrogated too many credits).

I am thinking of applting to Cornell’s Dyson/ Hotell school, UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce, Umich Ann Arbor’s Ross School and UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.
I can only attend the above mentioned schools if I get full scholarships(or at least close to full).
I moved to the US 4.5 years ago, therefore, not familar with the application process much.
Any help with the my application would be highly appreciated!
