Penn is my absolute dream school, so I have some questions about an award that I just won:

-Is this award highly regarded, or is it just considered an advertising scheme?
-Will this award be beneficial towards my application?
-Does it matter that this award is from Cornell instead of Penn?

Any answers to these questions and any other additional information about this award would be really helpful because I really have no idea what it is or what it means. Thank you in advance for the help/answers!

1a) kinda but really, no 1b) yes
2) no
3) no

“Name” colleges or local alumni clubs will sponsor book awards at a few favored high schools. Then the teachers get to spread them out amongst the top juniors. It has NOTHING to do with the college for which it’s named. You have your teachers to thank. It holds as much weight as saying you were on the honor roll.

The only exception might be the RPI medal …

I think it’s like any award, getting it usually means you are great student. The guy from my year who got the Penn award went to Yale. Oddly enough though, he did not get into Penn (applied RD).

@T26E4 In what way is the RPI Medal different? I was told I got it a few days ago, and when the folder came, I laughed with my English teacher about how pixellated the signature was. If a printable signature isn’t the point of the award, what is?
