**ACCEPTED: AAP! **

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT Reading: 730
[] SAT Math: 660
[] SAT Writing: 730
[] SAT Total: 2120
[] SAT II: Math I: 700; Math II: 660; Physics: 630
[] ACT: 31
[] Taking AP Lang, AP Chem, AP Calc AB this year at new school, my old school didn’t offer APs
[] GPA unweighted: 3.8
[] Rank or % estimate (if applicable): unranked, probably top 10%
[] Academic Awards: quite a list, but none of them are very impressive

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Very good, I spent a long time on then and had my parents and my college counselor proofread them.
[] Teacher Rec #1: My physics teacher from last year, maybe a little generic (didn’t read it)
[] Teacher Rec #2: My math teacher from the past 3 years, very good and personal (he let me read it)
[] Additional Rec: My AP Lang teacher from this year, good but maybe a little generic (didn’t read it)
[li] Counselor Rec: Very, very good (I haven’t read it but I know)
[/li]

[/ul]Location:[ul]
[] State or Country: CT, before that West Coast Canada, before that Russia
[] School Type: This year small private university prep school, last year small public school
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Female
[] Legacy Yes/No: No
[] Recruited Yes/No: No

[/ul]Other Factors: I applied for architecture to AAP, so a very big part of the decision was my portfolio, on which I worked for hours upon hours and am very proud of. I also went for an interview and the professor interviewing me kept me overtime and I think liked me a lot. Some of my extracurriculars are: Crew for 3 years (not hardcore though, and I’m not rowing in college), lots of art outside of school – courses and on my own, many years of theatre – community and school, several school volunteering and leadership projects (but nothing huge here either).

Why do you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted/offered guaranteed transfer: What I said above, and also – Cornell knew they were my clear first choice. I showed a lot of interest, visited twice, and it was a great fit for me. I guess they saw that despite my mediocre (compared to many people that apply at least!) grades and scores. I also think that my history of moving from Russia to Canada to the USA showed them that I adjust to new environments well, and helped me even if I am not a minority.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: I feel very lucky to have gotten in, but I think this also just proves that grades aren’t everything, even if they are very important. I didn’t believe it myself until I experienced it. Congrats to everyone who got it!

Decision & College: Waitlisted, College of Engineering (Mechanical)

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: accepted to yale, uc berkeley, and stony brook so dont really care, but i got waitlisted to harvard, mit, columbia, penn, cornell, johns hopkins, and cooper union, so im kind of wondering what i may have done wrong with my application(s) that caused so many (SEVEN out of 12) waitlists… oh and rejected from princeton/stanford.
anyway dudes(and dudettes) if u wanna get into cornell do better than me and get better grades, good luck!!!
