Cornell University: Human Ecology --> Human biology, health and society or Global Public and Health

Hello,

I am just wondering if anyone can help me out by telling me what is the major difference between the two majors in Human Ecology at Cornell: Human biology, health and society and Global Public and Health. Also if anyone is able to give me the stats on which major is easier to get into? I am really passionate about Cornell and want to maximize my chances. Thank you for helping me in advance!

The degree program requirements for both majors should be right on the website. Print the lists out and compare them, and then read the course descriptions in the online catalogue.

Cornell has never officially stated they accept by major, but I don’t assume they do because most students don’t declare a major until the end of sophomore year and a lot of students change from what they officially wanted to study. Look up what HBHS and GPHS has to offer (course requirements, etc.) and see which one you like more. HumEc is BIG on fit so it will be extremely difficult to be accepted to a major that they don’t see you fitting in regardless of your stats. Pick the one you like the most. Good luck.

Hi. I am currently a freshman major in GPHS. So the first biggest differences between these two majors are the amount of people in them…

Wait, i don’t get this… i typed a lot to answer this question and now only the first few sentences left when i posted it… SAD…

Then let me answer this again, in a short version. GPHS focuses on public health (obviously…) In the intro to public health class, we talked about obesity, food environment, medical system, pollution… Stats and epidemiology are also important parts. And HBHS, they focus more on biology and nutrition… One thing you might want to consider is that GPHS major only accept first year students. You cannot transfer in. And i believe not even from other majors…

@Sophia8992 can you help locate the most current AP credits fact sheet. I will be a freshman Human Ecology PAM major. It used to be on the website, but not anymore

@Sophia8992 Do you happen to know how difficult it is to get into GPHS?

Unfortunately no… But I guess I can say that I have no experience with public health before. I only got interested when I applied Cornell.

@Sophia8992 so how do you think you got into Global Health? What did you write in your supplements?

I think I just showed my interest. I talked about my experience, my future plan relate to the major. I was initially planning on majoring in GPHS and doing pre-med. So i talked about that, like how i can use what i am going to learn to become a good doctor. But now, I just want to focus on public health and forget the pre-med.

I was confused about how you got into GPHS without having any public health experience?
