I’m doing a BS in Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Qatar. I have been offered a chance to transfer to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
For a field related to political science, government, and foreign service, which one would be a better choice?
Extra information: I started my studies in a university in Afghanistan, but had to leave the country after the Taliban took over. I was originally a senior student, but as I transferred to GU, I am now considered a junior as I have to spend a minimum of two years at GU to be eligible for their degree. The same thing goes for Cornell University.
Not even close: Georgetown is the ne plus ultra for foreign service / poli sci. Cornell may be an “Ivy” but it is not even in the top 10 for your field.
As an alternative perspective, perhaps the OP would benefit from opportunities that studying at an academically excellent school in the U.S., such as Cornell, would provide.
You make a fair point- I had assumed that the OP would be in Qatar this year and DC next year. If assumption is mistaken- that s/he would be in Qatar both years- then 2 years in Ithaca, with the ease of getting a summer internship in the US (visa being already sorted) would be a meaningful difference.
So-if the OP would be on the Georgetown campus, Georgetown >> Cornell; if not Cornell > Georgetown.
