Cornell vs. Brown

I was pretty sure that I was going to go to Brown, but then I got accepted to Cornell as a National Scholar. Now I have no idea. I am planning on visiting both one more time, but can anyone give me advice? Cornell with their scholarship is slightly financially better. Is Cornell the obvious choice since it comes with the benefits of being a National Scholar?

Leaving all other points aside, if you are planning to do a major (concentration) in hardcore science subjects then go with Cornell; if you are planning to do a major in hardcore arts , then go with Brown. In general, if you like unstructured (Less rigid) curriculum, then Brown will be a better choice for you.

Go to one or the other. I’m on the waitlist for both. lol

Seriously, though, they’re two very different institutions. What exactly are you looking for in your undergraduate experience?

I’m a chemist at Brown and I would never have gone to Cornell. So I disagree with onomotopia wholesale. We need to know a lot more about you before making a fair recommendation (other than visiting, which you already plan to do).

I agree they are both very different. The reason I’m stuck between them is because I really can’t describe myself in a way that fits with exclusively Cornell and Brown. I am hard working and would do whatever I need to do my best, but I also need time to relax and have fun. I do like being near a city, but I wonder if a collegetown would actually provide a better undergraduate experience. I am going to be pre-med, but I love english. And since I have so many AP credits, I wouldn’t be stuck with too many requirements at Cornell. I really do feel that I could be happy at either one of them, which is why it’s so hard to make a decision. But I guess it’s also because of this that I’m lucky. Thanks anyway!

Both are excellent schools, so you’re unlikely to go dramatically wrong. On a side note…one factor to consider is the size of the undergraduate population and size of campus. I think that’s the most notable and dramatic difference between the two.

Both of them are good; I suggest you pay them a visit…

But I’d say Cornell…
