Cornell vs. University of Florida

I want to BUMP up this thread because I am in a very similar situation…

I was accepted to both schools (obviously) though I do NOT have prepaid for UF. I do have 100% Bright Futures which means (for you non-Floridians) the tuition part is paid for, all four years. That just leaves about 10,000/yr for Room and Board (assuming I stay on the meal plan all four years).

Cornell has given me a very generous grant of 32,000ish and that means I would have to pay the remaining 19,000/yr.

RECAP:
UF 10,000/yr
Cornell 19,000/yr

The trouble is I know I would be very happy at either college. UF means Gators, some of my best friends, crazy social scene, and being in driving distance from home. And the intensity at Cornell scares me a little bit. I have also always wanted to travel while I was young. I feel like taking on that extra debt would leave nothing for traveling, getting my first house/apartment soon after graduation, etc.

I have an extension at Cornell until the 9th to make a decision. I have already put down the deposit at UF. If I decide on Cornell, I just lose that deposit (in exchange for an Ivy education…)

Hi,

I don’t know if this helps you… but I made my decison to go to Cornell. If I were in your shoes, I’d make the same decision. However, there is a difference between you and me. I hate the University of Florida. I went there and didn’t at all feel at home. I didn’t feel that was the school for me. However, when I went to Cornell… I thought it was the greatest place on earth :P. After struggling with that decision for a while, I realized nothing worth getting is going to be easy to get. An Ivy league education is a once in a life time opportunity to get. When God smiles upon you and gives you such a gift, you take it. Period.

I hope this helps. I hope to you see you at Cornell. But if not, I’m sure you’ll be successful and happy being a Gator as well
