Cornell vs. University of Texas Honors

My son is torn between Cornell (College of Arts and Sciences) and the Health Science Honors Program in the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas in Austin. He is really geeked up over the prestige surrounding Cornell, and I think the experience would be fantastic for him (completely different world than what he is accustomed to right now), but I am not sure it is worth twice the cost, expecially since he is considering graduate school at this point. We can tighten our belts and afford Cornell, but I feel the Honors Program at UT is elite enough (50 out of 2000 kids in the College of Natural Sciences) and includes enough benefits to make the academic experience reasonably compatible (honors math and science classes, preferred housing, preferred course selections, Freshmen Research Initiative Program, etc.). Considering the financial difference and the possibility of post-grad schooling, the UT offer seems hard to pass up.

Any opinions from Cornellians (sp?)?

Is he considering med school (another huge expense) or a PhD program in the sciences (usually available as a full ride)? If med school, save as much money as possible on undergrad, as long as he can still get a great education and be well prepared for med school and med school admissions.
