Cornell Waitlist Class of 2024

@biblereader666 my kid has not heard back from human ecology. My theory last week was a few people got off the waitlist on Tuesday and they have five days to respond so the earliest we could possibly hear back would be today, realistically. I don’t think we will.

So far, what I know, three kids out of state have been taken from the waitlist–two from CT and one from VA. Which is surprising because there is a known (slight or otherwise) preference to in-state NY. I am less optimistic now that they took three out of state kids.

Any updates on Cornell SHA?

I haven’t heard of any movement since last week in any of the schools :frowning:

anyone hear anything from CAS today?

@nyc1201 two ppl in the cornell fb group said they got off the waitlist late last week for SHA

my friend got off SHA over a week ago

If anyone has received a response from CAS recently, could you please update us? Honestly things don’t seem to be looking too good for us CAS hopefuls :frowning:

^ @justacuriouskid same. anyone think there will be a wave this week? I don’t think they’ve taken anyone off since the reported 99 from before May 1, I believe.

@purplebinders there was a wave last week as well… @justacuriouskid I don’t think there was any news from CAS since last Tuesday, they said they will be accepting more kids across the next few weeks in a small and measured manner.

@purplebinders I hate to be the pessimist, but this is my analysis of our current situation.

To my knowledge, those 99 kids were accepted university-wide. As such, we don’t really know how many were accepted into CAS. In addition, based off CC and reddit, it seems like 3 or 4 kids were accepted off the waitlist last week for CAS.

These acceptances are all we know of, but it is highly probable that more kids were taken off the waitlist last week. They likely were (1) never on this thread to begin with, or (2) accepted and abandoned this thread.

Even if CAS was looking to accept more kids, why wouldn’t they have taken them already? I think CAS is keeping the waitlist open just in case a student who was initially accepted off the waitlist rejects their offer of admission.

Nonetheless, there is some hope. As @JohN1268 mentioned, CAS said that they will proceed with their waitlist in a “careful, measured” way, so let’s keep waiting! However, given that we have not heard any news for some time, this may just be wishful thinking.

In all honesty, our chances of acceptance were never high to begin with, and it seems like they are even lower now. Again, I really hate to be the pessimist, but I think it’s important for us to mentally prepare for a rejection.

In the meantime, let’s focus on the schools we’ve already committed to! If we made it this far, there is no doubt in my mind that we are all destined to do amazing things wherever our education may take us–there is so much to look forward to, so let’s not let this drag us down!

@JohN1268 oh got it, thank you for sharing. I wonder what that means…

@justacuriouskid I don’t think you’re being pessimistic; I think you’re being realistic. Your theory sounds pretty good to me. There could be CAS movement this week, but the chances are slim for us (don’t get me started on those top of the waitlist emails argh).

Let’s just expect a rejection so if we do get accepted, we’ll be pleasantly surprised, and if we get ultimately rejected, we’ll be fine

After nearly two weeks of waiting after receiving the email and browsing CC and reddit, there seems to be minimal activity from the CAS waitlist at least. I even joined the Cornell Class of 2024 facebook group to browse the most recent posts. So far, I have seen minimal posts after May 1st for students that are in CAS, but there are some students who have posted for CAS around Wednesday-Saturday of last week. Most of these students that I have seen that have posted are from the CT to MA area plus NY.

Therefore, it could be possible that Cornell is offering waitlist spots based on region, at least for the private colleges, because of the inability to acquire international students. The New England region has a reputation for being quite affluent, so Cornell may be pulling students from the “richer” areas first to compenstate for the lack of international students.

Additionally, the students that were admitted last week from the CAS waitlist have until tonight to make their decision. It is possible that tomorrow there will be another set of decisions that will be released. Plus, the 99 admitted prior to May 1st from the NYT article were most likely for all of Cornell’s colleges and not just CAS, COE, etc.

Hopefully, by the end of the week, Cornell will take for students off the CAS waitlist due to the “top of the list” email that they’ve sent out.

The earliest deadline for last week admission is this coming Thursday. If there is a financial aid application, it can be next next Thursday.

Is it not tonight? Or was it five business days after the online notification last Thursday?

the online notification was last Thursday. If there is a financial aid, will be another 5 days. the deadline is whichever later.

@Luckyjade2024 congrats on your offers!! Well, I’m also going through a very similar situation with multiple waitlists and it’s hard to make a decision. I want to ask you something specific, can you please pm me, if you can? ( I believe I cannot send a pm since my account is new, I would really appreciate your help)

did you get my PM?

CAS did say they will be accepting some students across the next few weeks…that could be only 1 or hopefully a lot more than that.

Just received CAS offer off the waitlist. I’ve been following the thread here, so just want to inform others.
