Riiiiight. Because the other 7 Ivies are not about money or profit and have no waitlists! None! And Harvard does not - I repeat NOT - have its infamous “Z-list” for wealthy legacies who can’t even make the regular waitlist! It doesn’t! And the other 7 Ivies turn down the almost $1,000,000,000 (yes, one billion dollars) the federal government gives each of them every year! They turn it down because they’re not about money or profit! Only Cornell takes the money! Because only Cornell is about money and profit! /s LOL
On a more serious note, the official waitlist stats for last year’s Cornell Class of 2023 show that 3,362 applicants accepted a place on the waitlist, and of those 3,362 on the waitlist, only 147 were offered admission. That’s only a 4.4% acceptance rate off the waitlist. See this link: https://irp.dpb.cornell.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Profile2019-Freshmen.pdf These waitlist stats need to temper expectations, as similar stats should temper expectations at RD.
Never said anything about the other ivys being any better about profit. I agree with the point you made through your sarcasm that most of them are worse than Cornell on this matter. In general, the American higher education system as a whole is way to profit/“business”-oriented.
Back on May 8 you said you withdrew your application from Cornell. Why are you still posting here? Was your “withdrawal” from Cornell a head fake to induce others to withdraw, to increase your odds? Interestingly, you made similar “it’s over for the waitlist” comments in the Michigan and UC Berkeley threads.
I am having an existential crisis right now so I really am no longer much worried about waitlist and I definitely would not use such underhanded tactic. If you read closely to some of my past comments I said those are my opinion, and usually i gave reasons like it won’t be in waves, so people really shouldn’t be holding too much hope. If you want to think that is to try to get people to withdraw then be my guest. I am really sick of the entire college process and the whole thing about trying to one up someone. I realized that there are more important things in life. That also made me realize how messed up it is to count on the whole covid situation for us to get in. People are passing away and others have to give up their dream schools due to factors not in their control.
Hang in there @FallAutumnLeaf!! If I remember correctly, you have committed to Brandeis University. Brandeis is an AWESOME school and you will do great things there! The school you attend will not define you…what you do at that school will!!
I want to make an apology. My friend said Cornell waitlist is filled based on this https://cornellsun.com/2020/05/13/cornell-receives-higher-than-target-admissions-acceptances-for-class-of-2024/ The article said that waitlist is done right now, but they could still be a few spots open. So what i said was misinformation and I am sorry if i discouraged anyone. I am personally done with Cornell but good luck to everyone still here. I hope u all get good news, but pls don’t let this bug you too long. You can really change your perspective on things very quickly. But anyway good luck!
Thanks for sharing. Is this based on some facts? I asked similar question before but I was told many didn’t receive TO - they just got a “good luck with you” letter at the end of the waitlist cycle.
Hey I got an award so I updated Cornell admissions office and they responded with this
Thank you for your note and your continued interest in Cornell. Please keep in mind that the waiting list is handled college by college. Typically, waitlisted students are notified anytime between May through July so we do encourage you to deposit elsewhere, if need be, to make sure you have a place to attend in the fall. We will notify waiting list candidates of their status just as soon as it is clear that additional offers of admission can be made. We do hope this helps.
Wishing you all the best,
They said JULY so I don’t know if that’s good or bad news.
It is all about the gap years. That is the big unknown. If a student asks for a gap year, they will not deny the kid, so into the waitlist the school will go!
