Cornellians- brief description of your essay?

Interesting indeed… There is so much to a religion; it has a lot to do with values, basic human care for other people, solidarity, forgiveness. Then there are the myths, the traditions… and of course the salvation. (I am not talking about any specific religion.)
But it is an important topic. Especially considering the ongoing battles between religious groups TODAY.

I just found this thread again. OP gave some good advice.

My son wrote about a trip with his father to another city to see a Red Sox game, and their last minute decision to attend a Crosby, Stills and Nash concert together while there. Not your usual topic.

readercc- That seems very interesting. How did he spin it to be a reflection on him?

Ok new idea! Which is better, change vs personality?

1: Comparing myself to Bellatrix Lestrange from HP. I thought this would be different since it’s one of the bad guys, but it’ll be kind of how I was different than all the girls and about my feminist beliefs and obviously show I like to read. But I don’t know, I read colleges get a lot of Atticus Finch essays/To Kill a Mockingbird, and I bet it’s not that different with Harry Potter, albeit I won’t be doing one of the “golden trio.” I think I can stay under 750 words with this one.

2: How my car accident renewed my faith in God and my relationship with my brother.

-I’ve already written this one, and I think it shows how I’ve changed b/c I overcame my germophobia which is what hindered our relationship and how it put my doubts of God to rest, but I think this might be cliche and it’s 950 words and I’ve already cut back on it, there’s not much more I can take out so the length may be viewed upon negatively because of that.

i’m not sure if you wanna refer to literature like harry potter…better to stick to classics

But then wouldn’t classics be cliche? Gah, I hate this, I’m about to give up on life, lol. Did anyone else have as stressful as a time as me?!

Why not HP? There’s nothing saying students should stick to classics.

I used HP in one of my essays, and I got in.
Do it if you really want to.

In fact, just do the essay you want to. None of these people work on the admissions committee, and none of them know your particular situation. There’s a reason you were initially drawn to the essay about the car accident and God and your brother.
Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.

Thanks. But isn’t it bad that it’s so long? You always hear horror stories about admissions counselors who don’t even realyl give your app a chance if your essay is significantly over the unofficial 600 word limit and mine’s 950ish. Anyone care to read my essay? I’d greatly appreciate it.
