Although Iam posting this on Cornell Board, it is a question for all colleges...

I am Korean and in my school, there are many koreans as well as white people...We get along really well... But I wanted to know if it is the same for the IVY schools or any other good schools..... I am sure there isn't a racial discrimination or anything, but is there like a time when an Asian guy is left out?? My friends are mostly white and they are really good buddies, but when I go to college I am afraid that I won't meet friends like them.... I am not being an ass or anything but.... I've always thought of IVY schools and other good schools to be like a "rich white people" school.... You know?? Like snobbish kind of..... So in Cornell or other schools, does race and how wealthy you are really matter?

i hear there are cliques of rich ppl, but there are all kinds of people at these top schools--diversity (of all kinds, not just race) is a significant factor when colleges consider applications. Race and wealth might matter to some people, but those aren't the people with whom you want to be associating, most likely. The majority of students will be open-minded, non-judgemental, etc., just like most well educated people.

Bottom line: Yes it exists, but not to the extent where you should worry about it.

There is no racial discrimination along the lines of "he's black, let's exclude him." A lot of the Asians (and any other racial group for that matter) here tend to stick to their own circles, but it's something they do of their own volition.

Cornell seems to take pride in it's diversity, and I think that the student body is unique in the sense that it is very diverse, and social networks seem to include this diversity.

If it makes you feel any better, while I only represent a tiny fraction of percent of next years class, I would never exclude anyone solely based upon social class or race. . . .I think I'd feel miserable about myself if I ever did anything that low.

And as far as social class goes, I don't see too much snobbery at Cornell. . .it seems like the "down-to-earth" ivy, probably influanced by it's private/public status.

me too stplayrxtreme, i love all people, as long as they're cool! and yeah, cornell is a REALLY diverse school, not just racially, but also, economically, geographically, etc.
