Correcting application errors after submission … or not

@firstsax-You did the right thing by sending a correction, and this will NOT affect your admission decisions at all, so stop worrying about it!

I spelled nationals naitonals in my ECs… not worth touching correct?

Thank you for your promp response, even on a Sunday. What should I do about the Common App schools? Some are highly selective.

*PROMPT.

@teenagecrime -Oy! Are you trying to ruin my vacation? OF COURSE this is not something that colleges want to hear about.

So relax (like I’m trying to do!)

@firstsax -

You listed a grade on the Common App? That’s not Standard Operating Procedure. But if you did, leave it alone. Common App schools go by the official transcript and not by any grades that a student might self-report. No one will hold it against you if they should happen to pick up on this small error.

I accidently input my SSN incorrectly into the CA even though it’s not required because I’m not doing financial aid. Should I send an email to admissions to fix that?
I also added an activity on my CA half way through submitting but I just edited my current app, didn’t create a new one and continued submitting. Is that bad?

@Laura00anne00 -The botched SSN makes me a tiny bit nervous, even though it’s unlikely to cause any problems if you’re not applying for aid. Even so, I recommend a quick email to each of your colleges correcting it.

Adding an activity halfway through is not a problem at all. Of course, the colleges that received your first batch of applications won’t get to see that activity, but I assume it’s not a big deal. If the activity had been life-changing, you wouldn’t have omitted it initially, right?

Right! Thank you so much for the same day response! I’ll be sure to fix it! This is slightly off topic but I am very unsure about this. I’m creating an “annotated activities list” for the honors I didn’t list in my CA. Would it be inappropriate to list invitations to events or societies that were based off my merit and I didn’t accept? The ones I would list: National Society of high School Scholars, Global youth Summit on the Future of Medicine, and the National youth Leadership Forum. Would these invitations be considered honors worth listing?

@Laura00anne00 -NO!!! Don’t include those “honors.” College admission folks will just roll their eyes when they see them. Gazillions of students receive such invitations, and they aren’t truly honors at all.

Okay! Disaster averted! Thank you!

I listed the grade I received for the class in the activity section of the Common App. You are right, they just go by the transcripts so I won’t worry about that. I wish the UC schools wouldn’t put so much of the grade reporting responsibility on the students. If I had not happened to catch that error, my admission would be revoked!!! Scary.

@firstsax–I really don’t think your UC acceptances would be revoked over a small error that was really a misunderstanding, but you’re right about the UC schools taking an atypical approach which does put added pressure on the student to complete all forms with precision … perhaps not a bad life lesson to learn in the teen years but also a stressful obligation during an already high-anxiety time.

Yes, and I’ll be hyper-aware of pass/fail options as well as the deadlines associated with them in college. Thanks for all your help.

I accidentally labeled my work(paid) experience as under volunteering in the activities section. Should I email colleges to correct this or would it make no difference?

@cartier123 -It really depends on what your job was. For instance, if you were a chemistry tutor, then I’d say to leave it alone. But if your job was “Greeter at Wal-Mart,” the college folks might think that you’re out of your mind if you listed this as a volunteer position.

It’s not something like that really. Basically, the only difference would be between getting paid vs. not getting paid when colleges view the app. I work for a nonprofit.

HELLP.
I made a terrible mistake in my Penn supplemental essay!
I wrote “university” in place of “college” at one place. The line was like “…the opportunity to take courses at other universities…” i was referring to the One University Policy.
Is this a big problem?

@rownak1995- Don’t worry. This is NOT any sort of problem in the least. The only “problem” I see if that, if this is the kind of thing that worries you, you will not survive college with all of it’s assorted anxiety-producing issues. So relax and don’t give this another thought.
