@mom2pnp Your GPA should be on your transcript
I’m applying as well! for the first time as a junior 4.4 GPA, 3.9 UW. I haven’t started on the essay & I’m having such a hard time thinking of what to write… I’m deciding between trying to show my passion for science and stuff or trying to show my unique side (which I would write about leadership and stuff)
Question: Did Cosmos change its teacher recommendations? I’m not sure if they require actual letters or if they still use the recommendation form.
Hey, I’m also applying to COSMOS as a sophomore. Just wondering, do any of you know about UCSC’s selectivity, especially for the Number Theory/Discrete Math cluster? I have a 4.0 UW GPA, but not many sciencey ECs, just some math/programming related ones.
@throwaway12346 once you fill in the teacher’s email address COSMOS immediately sends them the recommendation request. You don’t have to complete the application for the email to get sent; it goes as soon as you enter it and click to continue on with the app. The teachers have to respond to the email to complete the recommendation. It’s probably a good idea to ask for the reco prior to entering the teachers email address
Hi
I’m applying for cluster 7 (Big Bang and Subatomic world) at UCI as well as Cluster 3.
I am currently a freshman with a 4.17 weighted GPA, 4.0 unweighted.
My extracurriculars are fairly solid and I passionately self-study Astronomy.
Is anyone else applying to UCI?
Does anyone know how to submit the fee online? Also, what is this “parent portal” they are talking about? It’s on the list of required elements in the application, but I can’t find the parent portal anywhere.
Hey! I’m a 9th grader applying to UCSD COSMOS in Cluster 8,‘Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine’ and Cluster 3, Living Oceans and Global Climate Change. I know my first choice is super competitive, but I hope I get in!
@nupstar010 good luck!!
how hard is it to get into the mathematical modeling of biological systems cluster at UCD? (cluster 9)
This cluster is my first choice
also: i’m a junior, if that helps my admit rate. i’m also applying for the first time
Are you guys putting activities not related to STEM on your application? They say you can do that but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea.
@Mathophile26
I will be. I don’t have many science ECs…
@luckystarwin7 What is your stats? is USD harder to get in in general? I heard that some of the cluster that have very admission rate.
@Apple349 From previous years I’ve heard that USD is the hardest to get into, especially if your doing biomedical sciences. I think a few years ago they had like 400 applications and only took 40. Some other clusters at UCD might be easier though.
@luckystarwin7, alright. I might put a few non-mathy ECs but probably not all of them.
@“James Cai” Hmm then the other UCs might be easier to get into? UCSC had great clusters so I imagine that might be hard to get into, although not as difficult as UCD. Even though I’m near UCD, I’m applying to UCSC so I have at least a marginal chance of getting in
Hey guys, so I have everything pretty much done except the statement of interest. I’m having a bit of a writer’s block on what to include in it. what did you guys write about and include in it? I’m mainly talking about how the experience will help me with real-life jobs and stuff, but I feel like that is too generic and not really unique. Did you guys include your main ECs in the statement of interest, or should I only mention those in the activities section?
@Mathophile26 I just realized this was more of a California program and I’m from Georgia. RIP. I also applied to the biomed program at UC Davis. More RIP
@Apple349 Stats: 11th grader, 3.99 Unweighted (3.99 from one A-, A-'s count against GPA at my school), weighed 4.4
Took hardest math and science classes available at my school, got A’s in all.
Not as many sciency ECs however, so I plan to show passion through my essays
Just want to know if mathematical modeling of biological systems cluster @ UCD has a reputation for being tough to get into. probability and differential equations are also focused on in this course (all of which I have experience with). its not as medical based though it can be applied to ecological bio and molecular bio
I’m not applying for the biomedical sciences cluster at all, and I know that is the toughest one to get into. It’s not in my field of interest
James, where did you hear about the 400 vs 40 admitted? But I highly doubt thats applicable for other clusters at ucd
Also @Mathophile26 how did you tag him? I can’t since I have to hit space…
I think I will be using all 5 of the EC blocks available for my ECs but that might change because some are non-science ECs
