hey guys! I’m really conflicted right now so if someone could give me advice that would be much appreciated.
My school does physics in 9th grade, but our 8th grade bio class is of high school level. I want to apply to UCI tumor bio cluster and gene/biocontrol cluster but they both req 1 year of hs bio. What do I do?
I don’t want to apply to ucd biomed bc it is too competitive and the only thing that i am actually interested in for ucd is mathematical modeling for mol bio…
one of my older friends got into uci tumor bio last year without completing the hs bio req (but she was in 10th grade and most ca high schools have bio in 9th grade…im guessing cosmos assumed that she had already taken bio so they just let her pass. i can’t try for the same lucky pass bc i am in 9th grade and honors physics will show up on my transcript so they will know i have not completed the req)
should i try my luck at uci or just do mathematical bio at ucd (and not put a 2nd choice)? biomed is 1st choice only which is why i can’t put it as 2nd
here are my stats:
W GPA: 4.67
UW GPA: 4.6
APs Taken: I’m only a freshman so I only have APCS with Data Structures
EC: Ballet for 10 years, USACO Silver Competitor, part of my Women in STEM club
what are my chances at mathematical molecular bio at ucd?
hey guys-lmk if u guys have any questions or want any advice on the app. ik that its really hard for freshmen to get in and if you’re a junior, it’s darn easy to get in if you do your app right. just fyi, cosmos is focused a lot of the residential life, b/c it’s a “summer school” after all. personally, I feel like cosmos is really fun for underclassmen, but I encourage you guys to do higher level research over the summer if you guys are upperclassmen.
but anyways lmk if u need any advice and gl to all of you
hey guys… is it just me having trouble compressing the statements to 200 and 300 word limits? how are you guys dealing with this? also, statement of interest says optional. does it mean cosmos does not weigh the essays heavily? I am a freshman…
@bioai2018 read over your essay many times and each time, cut out the parts that you feel the essay could live without. In addition, try cutting down on unnecessary words, and if needed, try rearranging some sentences to save words
Hi everyone! I’m planning on turning in my application tmrw and I was just wondering what my chances would be with the following stats:
-current sophmore
-3.35 gpa uw
-medical association club officer at my school
-patient services hospital volunteer
-did Rosetta Institute summer program last summer(before my sophomore year) at UCB
-HOSA: preparing for events and going to compete in SLC
-biology tutor in 9th grade for struggling students
I’m applying to clusters 7 and 8 at Davis (Biomed and Chem of Life); I know my gpa is kinda bad but with ec’s and good apps do you think I can make it? Thank you so much!
Your GPA most likely won’t get you in… the website states that “A typical COSMOS student has a GPA of 3.5 of above.” Sorry for the discouraging words, but it’s the truth. I would still apply; you never know what happens.
Try to pull up your GPA so you can apply again in junior year.
can anyone tell me asap how to do the online credit card payment for COSMOS? I didnt submit my application yet, and will probably submit it late at night (i know that this is a bad decision but i have reasons…) so im wondering if it just pops up when you submit? our postoffice closes early so i need to know if i want to mail by check but id reaaally rather pay online. does anyone know?
my cluster (unfortunately) does not exist anymore but there wasn’t that much “homework,” but you need to do a lot of work for your final project. honestly, the best part of cosmos is most definitely the people and residential life. you go on field trips over the weekends (and cluster trips) and you get to do all sorts of activities for the majority of the day honestly
really depends on the cluster and campus. majority of the people at the camp had 4.0s and so did I (I did have 1 B+ in 8th grade as they required me to send in middle school report cards as well). I think the most important part of the app is definitely the essay, so if you wrote a solid essay that demonstrates INTEREST and not necessarily skill, I think you’re set
Hi, can y’all give me an estimate out of 100 for my chance to get into UC Irvine “Sound in Virtual Reality” cluster?
California resident
4.0 GPA (8th grade)
FTC 2nd year, programmer, 4th year in First
Science Olympiad 3 years, Mathcounts team
Made apps before, used IMU before in robotics (key component of the Cluster)
For the question, I just said some stuff about not being afraid to ask questions and not being embarrassed for failure. I got my rec from my school engineering teacher.
I probably won’t get in since I’m in 8th grade, but might as well try, and maybe since I do FTC it will help my case.
Hey guys!! I attended UCSD COSMOS 2017 cluster 4:Earthquakes in action! COSMOS was the best Summer I’ve ever experienced and it was priceless. It’s definitely worth it! You all did hard work for the application! i hope you guys get in!
