COSMOS 2018

does anyone know how many people applied this summer

@dyc yep :frowning:

No email = rejection??

@cookiedoughlover wait sorry i dont really understand what you mean lmaoo what happens to the other 98% of applicants?

@HowWouldIKnow i think depends on which program. which program did you apply to?

Does your portal mention how much the fee?

@cupcakequeen99 it said in my email that “over 800 applicants applied for 108 slots” for my program. which program did u apply to?

@jiminisbae lol some get accepted (39% in 2015) and the rest get rejected.

@jiminisbae oh… my email didnt say anything??? did you get accepted? i applied to ucsd cluster 4.

@cookiedoughlover what do you think about those who got waitlisted. what chance for them?

@bobabae Nice! I’ll see you there!

I didn’t receive an E-Mail yet and my application portal doesn’t show any special messages either? Does that mean that I didn’t complete my application correctly? I have all my boxes as “completed”, have the boxes for the rec letters as “verified”, the box for the transcript as sent, and the payment box as paid. The confirmation and signature box is labeled as “continue” but I know that I finished that. I didn’t get a “thank you for applying” e-mail from cosmos either… did I screw up???

Got waitlisted from uscd cluster 10 and second choice cluster 4… is the waitlist random or do they order the applicants in the waitlist as well?

@JP6201 for me the decision should be posted at the main portal page

does anyone know how many applicants there were to ucsd and how many were given?? i wish they would just accept everyone lolz

Hey so for my stats,
3.9 GPA (not as good as a lot of people here…), 11th grade rn, from CA, go to a competitive high school
Indian male
4.5 W GPA
I had done previous research projects at school and am the president of my School’s STEM-Med club.
Did math competitions and I think i got a solid letter of rec from Ap chem teacher.

One thing that possibly made me stand out is the fact that my essays were really really passionate.
I told them how much I loved chemistry, it was integrated into my music and sports. For both clusters I applied to, I mentioned professors who were teaching it and actually did research into their work as well.
Personal statement, I wrote again about chemistry. I think they saw my passion for it, and my STEM activities all related to chemistry and math (ex, stem-med club, editor of our school’s bimonthly scientific magazine, math competition)

Submitted that and I thought I had no chance, but got in!!

@throwaway123455 its ordered

@jiminisbae no idea, lol. I’ve heard of some people never getting off the waitlist.

@JP6201 it should say In Review in the application portal if you submitted it.

@jiminisbae It says: You were chosen as an alternate for this year’s COSMOS program at UC Santa Cruz. You are currently on the waiting list. Unfortunately, it is UCSC COSMOS policy that we cannot disclose what position you are on the waiting list. If a space becomes available, and you are the next person on the waiting list for your cluster, we will contact you immediately. (btw are you part of the army fandom because of your username because same :)) )
