Oh yea for those wondering, the acceptance rate to UCSD COSMOS was 28% this year, which they told us at graduation. COSMOS was the best experience of my life, so if you’re rejected, just apply again (I was rejected first try)
How many people are in a dorm?
And what was the acceptance for 2019?
the overall acceptance rate for UCI was 9.9% for anyone wondering! it was an incredible experience and the best month of my life :). if you have any questions about it don’t hesitate to ask!
How about the acceptance rate for UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz?
How does the residential system work at COSMOS? I know there is information on the website, but that’s kind of vague. I also want to hear it from people who’ve experienced it first hand or have information about it that the website doesn’t.
Would anyone be able to give me any information from experience at Cosmos?
@BeHappy777 Acceptance rate for UCSC was 15.22%. Cluster with the lowest acceptance rate was UCSC Cluster 9, with a 4.5% acceptance rate.
I’m thinking of applying to the UCSC cluster 3(Blubber, Feathers, and Fur: Exploring Animals in the Ocean and on Land), does anyone know how competitive it is to get into that cluster?
Is there a new COSMOS 2020 chat?
@BeHappy777 You room with one or two other people from different clusters and, at least at UCI, are also in a ‘Suite Group’ of around ten people who all share a bathroom. It’s a great system because you develop close relationships with people in your cluster and your suite.
@thequeenmum1 Ok, got it. Thanks!!! I’m definitely hoping I get in for 2020!
A follow up on the residential system. If the people you room with are not in your cluster, then will you only be able to see the people that ARE in your cluster during class?
I guess what I’m trying to get at is can you visit other dorms and other people to see them if they’re not in your dorm?
@BeHappy777 At least at UCI, you couldn’t go into a dorm building that wasn’t your own (there were two boy dorms and two girl dorms), but you could go to other people’s rooms within the same building. However, you really don’t spend much time in your dorm until 9-10, because most people do activities hosted by the RAs or hang out in public spaces (people would play cards together, sit in the quad and talk, throw a frisbee or pass around a volleyball, etc.). The time after class was really social and I definitely hung out with people from my cluster as well as my suite. For most clusters, the only time you really had work to do outside of being in class/labs was the last week when we were working on our posters, so you had 4-10PM to do whatever you wanted. Good luck with your application!
Okay, that makes sense. So we do other things besides classes, and we still can hang out with other people. Thanks!
@thequeenmum1 When you were accepted for Cosmos, what cluster did you do at UCI?
@phaseshift Thank you for all of this information! When did you attend Cosmos? 2018? What cluster did you apply to? I’d like to know about the actual class/cluster itself as well.
@corgisareamazing @ichen21 If I’m applying as an 8th grader going into 9th grade for the summer of 2020, then would I need to have straight A’s? Or if I don’t, would I need extracurriculars to help bring me back up?
@corgisareamazing @ichen21 And also, can it work vice versa? Can I get straight A’s, but not have too many extracurriculars, as I am still in middle school, and have a good chance of getting in?
