At a place like Davis, the worry isn’t just the number of infections at the location, but the potential of kids bringing it to the location. I wouldn’t bank on anything this summer. I’m just hoping thing will be back to normal in the fall.
Super sad for those accepted to have worry about a possible cancelation. I’m still a little hopeful that COSMOS might happen, due to it not starting until July, and using campus facilities that are UC property, so they have more local control. And, unlike other programs, the bulk of students attending are fairly local. I see some other camps are still planning on running, but have put out notices that they will require extra health records and travel history. I would imagine by May 1 most programs will have reached a decision about how to proceed… if it doesn’t run, I expect there will be lots of threads on summer ideas at home!

Quick question: between COSMOS and SIP, which one is a better experience? Anyone been to both?
@hellohello12345 Haven’t been to SIP (got in this year!), but from my experience, I would definitely say go to SIP. COSMOS stuff is pretty low level from my experience and the research isn’t as rewarding. COSMOS is more fun I would say though, although it is a shorter time period
can somebody tell me if doing camps like cty and epgy reduce my chances of cosmos admission?Should i mention these camps in my application or not.
if you’re on the waitlist will they let you know if you don’t get off the list? or do they only let you know if you get off the waitlist.
I think this is very cluster-specific. But as a general guideline, I believe that mentioning a previous program helps show an interest in learning, as well as an appreciation for being around like-minded people. However, if the program you did is very very similar to the COSMOS cluster (ie Probability at CTY, Math featuring Probability at COSMOS) then I think they might wonder why they should give a spot to someone that already had completed a similar program. I think they would consider that someone else might benefit more. On the other hand, if you are using previous programs to spring board your interest into a related area, it probably makes sense to list it. I would imagine a lot of the biomedical cluster applicants have something more basically biology/chemistry in their backgrounds, for instance.
I think the “Why” of your interest in the cluster needs to make sense, either because of a lack of exposure to a topic you are interested in, or because you’ve had enough general exposure to want to learn something more specific.
Accepted to UCD Cluster 9: Mathematical Modeling of Biological systems (anybody else??)
Stats:
Im a sophmore at a highly competitive French school (in California)
4.0 unweighted GPA, 3 Honors classes (English, history, and French)
ECS: Math en Jean (math program for international french schools), Technovation (entrepreneurship/ coding program, def recommend)
Personal Essays: I think pretty good, in the cluster essay, i related it to my back brace i wear for scoliosis (how my doctors MODEL the growth of my spine, using Mathematical Modeling of Biology…). in statement of interest i talked about my youtube channel devoted to scoliosis awareness).
Recs: I think they’re good, they were my fave teachers (but i didn’t read it so idk)
Hopefully that helps for next year! Really hope it doesnt get canceled.
@emmadadilemma congratulations! they say cosmos is expected to happen so let’s cross our fingers. I’m still on the waitlist
anyone else receive a waitlist survey email?
@mr250100 Yeah I did
@mr250100 I did too; was it just for UCSD people or did waitlisted people from all the campuses get one?
@mr250100 what did the email say? i applied for UCSC but i didn’t get one
it just says that they’ll contact you after April 17th if a space becomes available. then they have a link to a survey which just asks if you want to remain on the waitlist.
did anyone else who got waitlisted at uci get the survey email?
@asiangirlie Thank you!! and good luck! Update me as soon as u know, what campus/cluster did u apply to?
