Hi, I'm applying for COSMOS this year! What kind of things are you asked to write down on your application? Is it alright if you don't have a 4.0 unweighted GPA, but a high GPA for math and science? Also, do extracurriculars make much difference on the application? o:

Also, can you guys post your stats from when you applied to COSMOS? It doesn't matter whether or not you got in; I'm just curious to see if I'm good enough to make it

thanks so much :)

Hey I’m applying for cosmos this year too! What campus and cluster?
I’ve had friends go to the program before, they’re all very good students (all of them have at least a 4.0 unweighted) and participate in competitive ecs, like tennis, golf, academic league, and speech and debate. Additionally, some of them are in science and math clubs.
Although grades and scores are obviously important, I heard that what they really want is someone who is truly passionate about science. Write your essays wholeheartedly, not just to impress. In the end, they’ll probably pick the person who wants to learn more about something they’re interested in. Good luck (:

^seconded! hahaha. Good luck guys. You can search the old threads for the official COSMOS threads. People have posted their stats on some of them.

hi jlee,

When i applied to cosmos many years ago
I think 4.4 GPA (1 B in English), 800 Math 2, 211 PSAT, Science Bowl (but no awards, nothing incredible), but my school was a historically represented school we always had 2 ppl from our Bowl team get in so it was kind of a tradition
At that point in time there was absolutely nothing impressive on my resume just yet (little did I know COSMOS would be the launch pad to my academic future), I did get 2 probably amazing recs and I had many technical difficulties so I think I made a dent in my program coordinators mind because I would constantly (respectfully) email her.
If anything those essays count the most and not so much the grammar just the RAW PASSION. I read my cosmos essays the winter after when I applied to other summer programs (Post SAT writing classes) and I almost barfed, but I could tell “wow this kid really wants to learn something cool this summer” if you got that message across you should be fine.

COSMOS is the greatest summer program ever! I still talk to my RA’s (I met one 2 weeks ago and lives 3 hours from me) and the research adviser I had helped me get a job with NASA and into the best college on earth (acc to times higher ranking).

best of luck.
